PT Kereta Api Indonesia Operational Region (Daop) 9 Jember is\neducating the public, particularly children, about the dangers of\nplacing objects on railway tracks, as this can disrupt train journeys\nand endanger safety.<\/p>\n
\u201cArranging stones or placing objects on railway tracks may appear to\nbe a simple prank. However, such actions can disrupt journeys and\nendanger the safety of passengers, staff, and the surrounding\ncommunity,\u201d said Cahyo Widiantoro, Legal and Public Relations Manager of\nKAI Daop 9, in Jember on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Based on data from Daop 9 Jember, 13 incidents of stone arrangement\nor object placement on railway tracks were recorded throughout 2025,\nfollowed by six incidents from January to July 2026, with three\noccurring in Probolinggo and one each in Pasuruan, Lumajang, and\nJember.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur target is not merely to reduce the number of incidents, but to\nprevent them from happening again, because placing stones or any objects\non the tracks can endanger train journeys,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, trains require a certain distance to come to a stop, so\neven the smallest object on the tracks can pose a potential safety\nhazard.<\/p>\n
\u201cDo not consider a small object on the tracks as trivial, because its\nimpact can endanger train journeys and the safety of many people,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
He also reminded the public not to be present or carry out activities\nwithin the railway right-of-way, as this is regulated under Law No.\u00a023\nof 2007 on Railways.<\/p>\n
In simple terms, Article 181 paragraph (1) prohibits the public from\nbeing within the railway right-of-way or placing or moving objects on\nthe tracks without authorisation.<\/p>\n
\u201cFurthermore, Article 178 prohibits the placement of objects that\ncould endanger train journeys, while Article 180 prohibits actions that\ndamage or cause railway facilities and infrastructure to malfunction,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n
According to him, violations of these provisions may be subject to\nsanctions in accordance with applicable regulations, and he urged the\npublic not to play on the tracks because railway lines are not\nplaygrounds.<\/p>\n
KAI is also collaborating with local authorities, including security\nforces and regional governments, to strengthen supervision and support\nthe creation of safe railway line conditions.<\/p>\n
In addition, safety education and outreach continue to be carried out\nfor communities living or working near railway lines.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe urge parents to remind their children not to play around railway\nlines because safety is a shared responsibility.
