        "content": "<p>Purworejo \u2013 Ahead of the long weekend and end-May 2026 holiday\nperiod, KAI\u2019s Operational Region 5 Purwokerto is encouraging the public\nto use facial recognition boarding gates to expedite departure processes\nat stations. The technology is seen as a solution to reduce queues\nduring peak passenger periods while providing a more convenient travel\nexperience, as passengers no longer need to present tickets or ID cards\nfor boarding. The facial recognition boarding gates are currently\navailable at Kutoarjo Station in Purworejo, Central Java, processing\neach passenger in one to two seconds. \u201cThrough facial recognition\ntechnology, the boarding process becomes more practical and efficient,\nenabling customers to enjoy a more comfortable travel experience,\nparticularly during long holidays,\u201d Asad said on Sunday, 25 May 2026.\nKAI data shows increasing usage of the service year-on-year,\nparticularly at Kutoarjo Station. In 2024, 31,426 passengers used the\nfacial recognition boarding gates; this figure rose to 180,159 in 2025.\nBetween January and mid-May 2026 alone, 63,271 passengers used the\nservice. Cumulatively from 2024 to May 2026, total users at Kutoarjo\nStation reached 274,856. \u201cThe increase in usage not only benefits\npassengers but also supports the company\u2019s commitment to Environmental,\nSocial, and Governance (ESG) principles,\u201d he said. From 2024 to mid-May\n2026, KAI saved 687 rolls of paper boarding passes at Kutoarjo Station,\nequivalent to cost savings of Rp10.14 million (Rp10,145,622). For\nunregistered travellers, facial recognition registration requires only\none-time setup, with data usable permanently at all stations equipped\nwith the system. \u201cRegistration can be done via the Access by KAI app or\nstation registration officers,\u201d he said. Asad urged the public to start\nusing the service during the holiday period: \u201cWe encourage the public to\nuse this service promptly to make holiday travel more convenient,\nmodern, and environmentally friendly with KAI,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>",
