PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has firmly denied the decision to\nclose Karet Station. KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne\nPurba, emphasised that the station remains a vital part of the railway\nservice system, particularly in supporting integration with Sudirman\nBaru Station, also known as Basting City.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn 81 years of KAI\u2019s history, we have never closed a station.\nTherefore, I strongly reject the phrasing that Karet Station is being\nclosed,\u201d said Anne during a press conference at BNI City Station,\nJakarta, on Friday (4\/9\/2026).<\/p>\n
Anne explained that the company is currently undergoing a service\nintegration process between Karet Station and BNI City to accommodate\nthe steadily increasing volume of passengers. She noted that\ninfrastructure adjustments are necessary at Karet Station due to limited\nland and platform length.<\/p>\n
\u201cKaret\u2019s platform is short and close to a level crossing. Our\ninvestments, which began two years ago and will continue for the KRL\n(Commuter Line), are all focused on the SF12 formation. Therefore, we\nmust prepare the infrastructure and facilities now,\u201d Anne said.<\/p>\n
Although passenger services for the KRL are being diverted to the\nplatforms at BNI City Station to ensure safety and comfort, Anne stated\nthat Karet Station continues to function as a primary access gateway for\nthe public. She added that KAI is currently reorganising the area to\nmake it more pedestrian-friendly and better integrated with other modes\nof transport without causing congestion.<\/p>\n
\u201cKaret Station remains active in serving the KRL lines. We are also\npreparing Karet to serve as a passenger access gateway. So, it is not\nbeing closed,\u201d Anne asserted.<\/p>\n
As part of the development plan, Anne continued, KAI will prepare\nmodern supporting facilities to connect Karet Station with BNI City.\nThese facilities will include both flat and inclined travelators, as\nwell as the reorganising of drop-off zones for motorcycle taxis (ojek)\nand other intermodal transport.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, even if we walk from the direction of Karet towards this\nstation, we can still provide comfort to our customers,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
Anne noted that the closure of certain entry and exit points at Karet\nStation is temporary as the reconfiguration process is underway.\nRegarding the duration of the works, she mentioned that the process will\nbe carried out in stages.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will be done gradually; once parts are completed, they will be\nreopened in stages, with the process expected to be finalised within the\nnext one to seven months,\u201d Anne said.<\/p>\n
She assessed that this step is part of KAI\u2019s commitment to improving\nurban transport services. In addition to Karet Station, Anne mentioned\nthat KAI is also undertaking major improvements at other high-transit\nstations, such as Manggarai, Cawang, Duri, and Tanah Abang.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur efforts to improve the integration of Karet Station with\nSudirman Baru or BNI City can be achieved.
