        "content": "<p>PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operational Area 2 has urged the public\nto avoid any activity on or near railway lines to prevent further\nfatalities, following a recent incident in Cianjur. The call comes after\na resident was struck and killed by a train in Kertasari Village,\nHaurwangi District.<\/p>\n<p>Kuswardoyo, Public Relations Manager of Daop 2 Bandung, stated on\nTuesday that the victim, identified as Sopandi, was hit by the Siliwangi\ntrain on Monday while walking with his back to the oncoming locomotive.\nDespite the train driver repeatedly sounding the horn, the victim\nreportedly did not move aside or avoid the approaching train.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We will intensify public awareness campaigns to ensure compliance\nfrom communities living along the railway line, in order to prevent such\nundesirable incidents, including increasing vigilance when crossing\nunguarded level crossings,\u2019 Kuswardoyo said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Aipda Teddy Firmansyah, Head of the Traffic Accident Unit\nat Bojongpicung Police, explained that the 52-year-old victim, a\nresident of Kampung Kondang, Kertasari Village, Haurwangi District, was\nfatally struck by the Siliwangi train travelling the\nCipatat-Cianjur-Sukabumi route. The victim was walking along the tracks\nto inspect a water pipe that needed repair, unaware of the train\napproaching from behind from the Cipatat direction towards Cianjur. The\nimpact threw the victim approximately 10 metres.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The victim was about to repair a water pipe located adjacent to the\nrailway line. At the same time, the Siliwangi train was approaching from\nthe opposite direction. It is suspected the victim did not notice the\ntrain\u2019s arrival despite the prolonged sounding of its horn,\u2019 Teddy\nFirmansyah said. The victim\u2019s body was taken to a local community health\ncentre for a post-mortem examination before being released to the family\nand buried near his home in Kampung Kondang.<\/p>",
