Kahfi says apartment construction to go on<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Central Jakarta mayoralty will allow the
\ndeveloper of the Park Royale apartments on Jl. Gatot Subroto to
\ncontinue construction as soon as the problems disturbing people
\nliving nearby are overcome.<\/p>\n
Central Jakarta Mayor Abdul Kahfi said that he would announce
\nthe decision to allow resumption of construction after receiving
\ncomplete progress reports from the Central Jakarta development
\nsupervision agency.<\/p>\n
Kahfi explained that in a preliminary report from the agency
\nthe developer, PT Sari Lembah Hijau, admitted it had failed to
\nanticipate the impact of the project on the people living in the
\nsurrounding area.<\/p>\n
The developer, he said, had given assurances that it would be
\nmore careful in carrying out the project.<\/p>\n
"The developer has showed its good intention to solve the
\nproblem and has promised to be more careful in the future," Kahfi
\nsaid, adding that his office would ask the developer to sign an
\nagreement before allowing resumption of the construction.<\/p>\n
Residents of the Bendungan Hilir subdistrict in Central
\nJakarta raised objections to the construction of the apartment
\ncomplex mainly due to the air pollution emanating from the
\nconstruction site.<\/p>\n
The residents protested to the Central Jakarta mayoralty
\noffice complaining that the construction work was too noisy and
\ngenerating excessive air pollution.<\/p>\n
They claimed that the dust from the project was polluting the
\nneighborhood to such an extent that residents were having
\ndifficulty keeping their houses clean.<\/p>\n
In response to the protest, the Central Jakarta mayoralty
\nwarned the developer and temporarily banned the developer from
\ncontinuing the construction work.<\/p>\n
But according to some of the residents the developer has
\nignored the warning and is going ahead with the construction.<\/p>\n
Rio Tambunan, one of the residents, said that the developer
\nignored the warning by continuing the construction work of the
\nluxurious apartment.<\/p>\n
"We intend to file a lawsuit against the developer because the
\nwork has harassed and disturbed us," Rio said. (yns)<\/p>",
