Commission V DPR RI Chairman Lasarus has expressed profound\ncondolences over the incident in which the long-distance Argo Bromo\nAnggrek train collided with a KRL near Bekasi Timur Station in Bekasi,\nWest Java. Lasarus then highlighted the ongoing issue of level crossings\nthat PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has yet to properly address.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs the leader of Commission V DPR, I convey my deepest condolences\nfor the accident. May the families of the victims be granted strength\nand resilience. To the personnel on the ground, please ensure and\nprioritise the handling of the victims to receive the best and maximum\ncare,\u201d Lasarus said when contacted on Tuesday (28\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n
In response to the incident, Lasarus urged the government to\nimmediately resolve the thousands of level crossing emergencies along\nrailway lines in Indonesia. These level crossings, he said, frequently\ncause train accidents.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe ask the government to promptly resolve the level crossing\nemergency in Indonesia. Commission V DPR has been requesting PT Kereta\nApi Indonesia for years to address the level crossings, but to this day,\nthis emergency has not been handled properly. Let\u2019s check the data:\nthere are still thousands of level crossings in Indonesia that are\nunmanaged,\u201d Lasarus emphasised.<\/p>\n
According to him, Commission V DPR has been reminding the government\nthrough Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) and the Ministry of Transportation\n(Kemenhub) for years to resolve the level crossing emergency in\nIndonesia. To date, there are thousands of level crossings that have not\nbeen properly managed.<\/p>\n
Lasarus further stressed that if the level crossing emergency is not\nresolved properly soon, train accidents will continue to occur in\nIndonesia. \u201cThat\u2019s why railway lines around the world are clear and\nclean, except in Indonesia. Therefore, if the level crossing emergency\nis not handled well, there are thousands of possibilities for accidents\nto happen again,\u201d Lasarus asserted.<\/p>\n
Based on KAI data, the number of level crossings in 2024 was recorded\nat 3,896, consisting of 2,803 registered crossings and 1,093\nunregistered ones. Of this number, 1,832 crossings are guarded, while\n971 are unguarded.<\/p>\n
Entering 2025, the number of level crossings decreased to 3,703\npoints, including 2,776 registered and 927 unregistered.<\/p>\n
In December 2025, during the same period, the number of guarded\ncrossings was 1,864 points, while the unguarded ones decreased to 912\npoints.<\/p>\n
The death toll from the accident has reached 14 people. Previously\nreported, the death toll from the Argo Bromo Anggrek train collision\nwith the KRL in Bekasi Timur has increased to 14 people. In addition,\nthere are 84 injured victims.<\/p>\n
\u201cUpdate 08.45 WIB: 14 deceased, 84 injured victims, handling process\nstill ongoing,\u201d said KAI VP Corporate Communication Anne Purba in a\nwritten statement on Tuesday (28\/4).<\/p>\n
KAI stated that all medical treatment costs for the injured victims\nand funeral costs for the deceased will be covered by insurance and KAI.\nKAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that the deceased victims\nhave been taken to RS Polri Kramat Jati for further identification\nprocesses.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the 84 injured victims have received medical treatment at\nvarious health facilities.
