Jusuf Wanandi meets authorities' summons<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Jusuf Wanandi was questioned for almost five
\nhours by the city branch of the Agency for the Coordinating of
\nSupport for National Stability (Bakorstanasda Jaya) yesterday, in
\nconnection with an explosion in a cheap apartment in Tanah Tinggi
\nlast month.<\/p>\n
Jusuf, who's brother Sofjan Wanandi has twice been interviewed
\nabout the same incident, was questioned by a team of
\nBakorstanasda Jaya officers at the Jakarta Military Police
\nheadquarters on Jl. Guntur, South Jakarta, from 9 a.m to 2 p.m,
\nwithout a lawyer present.<\/p>\n
Bakorstanasda Jaya spokesman Lt. Col. DJ. Nachrowi told
\nreporters that Jusuf said he was not acquainted with any of the
\nsuspects in the case and denied any role in the blast.<\/p>\n
As with his brother, Sofjan and Media Indonesia general
\nmanager Surya Paloh, who has also been questioned, Jusuf was
\nsummoned by security authorities following discovery of documents
\nsuggesting he provided financial support to those suspected of
\ncausing the explosion.<\/p>\n
"He looked fine when we showed him the documents," Nachrowi,
\nwho is also spokesman for the Jakarta Military Command, said.<\/p>\n
Both Jusuf and Sofjan are executives of the Centre for
\nStrategic and International Studies (CSIS), a think-thank
\nresearch group.<\/p>\n
According to Nachrowi, Jusuf has promised to help the
\nauthorities investigate the case and will give himself up if
\nofficers prove his involvement.<\/p>\n
The hand-made bomb, which was not very powerful, exploded on
\nthe evening of Sunday Jan. 18 at a rented room in the Tanah
\nTinggi apartment. There were no fatalities, but part of the
\nceiling of the room was badly damaged.<\/p>\n
Police so far have detained two men, identified as Agus Priono
\nand Rahmat Basuki, for illegally making and possessing the bomb.
\nAgus was caught by his neighbors at the scene and Rahmat was
\narrested in Yogyakarta on Jan. 31.<\/p>\n
The two have claimed themselves to be sympathizers of the
\noutlawed People's Democratic Party (PRD).<\/p>\n
PRD's chairman Budiman Sudjatmiko, currently serving a 13
\nyears prison sentence, was questioned on Wednesday. He denied
\nthat the two suspects were members of his party, his lawyers said
\nin a statement.<\/p>\n
The documents found at the scene of the explosion are also
\nbelieved to contain the names of other people, not yet made
\npublic by the authorities.<\/p>\n
Nachrowi denied yesterday that the questioning of the three
\nfigures was orchestrated by the military. The investigation into
\nthe bomb blast will without any deadline, he added. (jun)<\/p>",
