The daughter of former Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla has spoken out about a single-vehicle accident in which a drunk driver crashed into the fence of her Dharmawangsa residence in South Jakarta. Chairani Kalla said the driver admitted to being under the influence of alcohol and provided a written statement of apology, which she kept as evidence to correct what she described as an inaccurate police account.

In the early hours of Wednesday, 18 February, a single-vehicle
accident occurred in the Dharmawangsa area of South Jakarta. Initial
reports indicated that a 35-year-old woman had crashed into the fence of
the residence belonging to Indonesia’s 10th and 12th Vice President
Jusuf Kalla (JK), but it later emerged that the fence struck was that of
JK’s youngest daughter, Chairani Kalla.

Chairani, commonly known as Ade, explained that her home and JK’s
residence are situated within the same compound comprising several
houses. Ade stated that the woman, identified by the initials HP, was
intoxicated at the time of the incident but subsequently showed good
faith.

“The person showed good faith by coming here — she came just this
afternoon, this evening. And she came, thankfully she apologised and
said she would pay compensation. I said thank you for the good faith in
coming, thank you for being willing to take material responsibility, but
material matters are secondary. The first priority must be moral
accountability — it must be,” Ade told detikcom at her residence on
Saturday, 21 February 2026.

Ade explained that when she met with HP, she urged the driver to take
responsibility for her negligence in driving whilst intoxicated. Ade
said HP ultimately provided a written letter of apology along with a
statement confirming that she had indeed been under the influence of
alcohol when the crash occurred.

“So that’s what I wanted — for her to take moral responsibility. ‘Do
you admit you were under the influence of alcohol?’ Thankfully, she
admitted it. She said, ‘Yes, Ma’am, I was under the influence of
alcohol. I was indeed drunk at the time and I apologise, I was out of
control,’” Ade recounted.

“Then I said, ‘Would you be willing to write a statement confirming
you were under the influence of alcohol?’ Thankfully, she was willing to
write it. I’ve photographed it and kept it for my records. So what’s
important to me is having evidence that she was indeed drunk and that
the police statement was incorrect,” she added.

Ade confirmed that the matter has been resolved and that she has
forgiven HP.

“Yes, I have forgiven her. During the month of Ramadan, we must learn
patience and sincerity,” she concluded.

The Hyundai Santa Fe driven by HP crashed into Ade’s fence in the
early hours of Wednesday, 18 February, at approximately 03:30 local
time. HP had been travelling from the direction of Kemang and was
heading home to Jagakarsa in South Jakarta.

The Head of Public Relations at the South Jakarta Metropolitan
Police, Senior Commissioner Murodih, confirmed that there were no
injuries or fatalities resulting from the accident.
",
