Justice Party and forest fires<\/p>\n

Our observations over the past two years has shown that 70
\npercent of the fires in this country occur on plantations and
\nland, while the remaining 30 percent are in forested areas.<\/p>\n
It must be kept in mind that forests and land management come
\nunder one of the seven points in the government's priority
\nprogram and this time it is the responsibility of the state
\nminister of the environment. In its implementation, the offices
\nof the state minister of the environment will work together with
\nrelevant government agencies and the community.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, these fires have made many people suffer from
\nupper respiratory tract infections, disrupted airline schedules,
\na damaged soil structure and biodiversity and given Indonesia a
\nreputation as a "smoke-exporting" country. In this last case,
\nother countries suffering from the effects of smoke could file a
\nlawsuit against Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Therefore, the Justice Party makes the following call:<\/p>\n
(1) Relevant government agencies must refrain from blaming one
\nanother. They must also not pass their responsibilities on to
\nother parties. They must do away with sectoral egotism and handle
\nthis matter in an integrated manner.<\/p>\n
(2) The government must not make forest fires a reason to secure
\nmore foreign loans.<\/p>\n
(3) Legislators must be more proactive in pressuring the central
\ngovernment and regional administrations so that the problem can
\nbe solved efficiently and effectively.<\/p>\n
(4) The community, including non-governmental organizations, must
\ncontinue monitoring the situation, especially to prevent these
\nfires from recurring.<\/p>\n
