The panel of judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court has granted the\nrequest to transfer the detention of former Minister of Education,\nCulture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Anwar Makarim from prison\ndetention to house arrest. This transfer of detention for Nadiem takes\neffect tomorrow.<\/p>\n
The granting of the request to transfer Nadiem\u2019s detention was read\nout directly by the Chief Judge of the Panel, Purwanto S. Abdullah,\nduring a hearing held at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Monday\n(11\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is hereby decided: first, to grant the request of the Defendant\u2019s\nLegal Counsel to transfer the type of detention of the Defendant.\nSecond, to transfer the type of detention of the Defendant Nadiem Anwar\nMakarim from detention at the Salemba State Detention Centre Branch of\nthe Central Jakarta Prosecutor\u2019s Office to house arrest at the\nDefendant\u2019s residence located at The Residence at Dharmawangsa 2 Unit\n1908 RT\/RW 01\/02, Pulo Ward, Kebayoran Baru Subdistrict, South Jakarta\nCity, effective from 12 May 2026,\u201d stated Purwanto when reading the\nverdict granting the request for Nadiem\u2019s detention transfer.<\/p>\n
Although granting the request, the judge also explained the matters\nthat must be complied with by Nadiem as conditions for house arrest. The\nconditions are as follows:<\/p>\n
A. The Defendant must remain within his residence at The Residence at\nDharmawangsa 2 Unit 1908 RT\/RW 01\/02 in Pulo Ward, Kebayoran Baru\nSubdistrict, South Jakarta City for 24 hours a day and 7 days a\nweek.<\/p>\n
B. The Defendant is prohibited from leaving his residence for any\nreason except:<\/p>\n
Undergoing surgery on 13 May 2026 and subsequent medical\ntreatment at Abdi Waluyo Hospital or another designated\nhospital.<\/p><\/li>\n
For medical check-ups that have previously obtained written\npermission from the Chief Judge of the Panel based on a written\nrecommendation from the treating doctor.<\/p><\/li>\n
Attending court hearings as scheduled by the Panel of\nJudges.<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
C. The Defendant must agree to have an electronic monitoring device\ninstalled on his body if the facilities are available at the Central\nJakarta Prosecutor\u2019s Office, with the stipulation that the Defendant is\nprohibited from removing, damaging, manipulating, or interfering with\nthe device\u2019s function, must immediately report any damage, and must\nensure the device is always active and charged.<\/p>\n
D. The Defendant must report directly to the Public Prosecutor at the\nCentral Jakarta Prosecutor\u2019s Office twice a week, namely on Mondays and\nThursdays at 10:00 WIB to 12:00 WIB, unless impeded due to post-surgery\nhealth conditions evidenced by a doctor\u2019s certificate.<\/p>\n
E. The Defendant must surrender his Republic of Indonesia passport,\nany foreign passports, and all other travel documents to the Prosecutor\nat the Central Jakarta Prosecutor\u2019s Office no later than 1x24 hours from\nthe issuance of this decision.<\/p>\n
F. The Defendant is prohibited from contacting, meeting, or\ncommunicating with witnesses or other defendants in this case or related\ncases, either directly or indirectly, whether through face-to-face,\ntelephone, text messages, emails, social media, or other communication\nmeans.<\/p>\n
G. The Defendant is prohibited from giving statements, interviews, or\nany comments to the mass media regarding this case without written\npermission from the Panel of Judges.<\/p>\n
H. The Defendant is prohibited from receiving visitors other than\nimmediate family members (spouse or biological children), registered\nlegal counsel in the case file, and medical personnel based on a\nhospital assignment letter.<\/p>\n
I. The Defendant must provide access to officers designated by the\nCentral Jakarta Prosecutor\u2019s Office to enter and inspect his residence\nat any time to ensure compliance with the house arrest conditions.<\/p>\n
J. The Defendant must attend every court hearing as scheduled unless\nimpeded due to post-surgery health conditions evidenced by a doctor\u2019s\ncertificate.<\/p>\n
In the granting of the request, the panel of judges also explained\nthat if Nadiem violates one or more of the stipulated conditions, the\ntype of detention will be transferred back to prison detention at the\nState Detention Centre.<\/p>\n
\u201cFifth, ordering the Public Prosecutor at the Central Jakarta\nProsecutor\u2019s Office to implement this decision, supervise the execution\nof house arrest, and report its implementation periodically to the Panel\nof Judges,\u201d explained the judge.<\/p>\n
\u201cSixth, ordering the Substitute Clerk to deliver copies of this\ndecision to the Defendant, the Defendant\u2019s Legal Counsel, the Public\nProsecutor at the Central Jakarta Prosecutor\u2019s Office, and the Head of\nthe Salemba State Detention Centre Branch of the South Jakarta\nProsecutor\u2019s Office,\u201d added the judge.<\/p>\n
Purwanto emphasised that the panel of judges considered granting this\nrequest based on Nadiem\u2019s health factors and not due to any other\nfactors.<\/p>\n
\u201cEspecially if anyone promises you something, report it immediately.\nThere is absolutely none from the Panel of Judges. That\u2019s all,\u201d he\nconcluded.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Nadiem expressed his gratitude for the judge\u2019s approval of\nhis detention transfer request.<\/p>\n
