JSX to establish information centers<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSX) will establish
\ninformation centers in the country's major cities as part of its
\ncampaign to promote capital market activities.<\/p>\n
Hasan Zein Mahmud, the JSX president, said yesterday that the
\ncampaign is a crucial step in improving the knowledge of the
\npublic about the capital market.<\/p>\n
\"The long-term goal of the campaign is to make local investors
\ndominant here,\" Hasan said, adding that local investors should be
\nable to gradually beat the dominance of foreign investors, who at
\npresent carry out over 70 percent of total transactions on the
\nmarket.<\/p>\n
Felia Salim, the bourse's director for development, said that
\nthe planned information centers will be opened in several cities
\nthis year.<\/p>\n
\"In what cities, well we don't know yet but a number of cities
\nwill definitely get capital market information centers this
\nyear,\" she said.<\/p>\n
She said that cities such as Manado, Ujungpandang, Medan,
\nBatam, Pontianak, Balikpapan and Denpasar will be soon be
\nsurveyed.<\/p>\n
Felia said that the opening of information centers is aimed at
\noptimizing the bourse's domestic campaign, which is now carried
\nout by holding the \"clinic for going public,\" a free capital
\nmarket consultation service.<\/p>\n
Besides providing information on capital market activities,
\nthe planned information centers will also hold routine
\nconsultation forums, she said, adding that local businessmen and
\nintellectuals will be also involved in the establishment and
