        "content": "<p>JP\/5\/Sniper<\/p>\n<p>Snipers, bomb squad deployed to tighten security<\/p>\n<p>Nana Rukmana<br>\nand Suherjoko<br>\nThe Jakarta Post<br>\nCirebon\/Semarang<\/p>\n<p>Ensuring a safe return home to celebrate religious holidays is <br>\nno longer limited to the prevention of traffic accidents; snipers <br>\nand bomb squads from the Police Mobile Brigade will also guard <br>\nagainst more sinister possibilities.<\/p>\n<p>They are among at least 3,600 police personnel to be deployed <br>\nduring the Idul Fitri exodus traffic along the north coast area <br>\nof West Java, 10 days prior to the celebrations due to fall on <br>\nNov. 25-26.<\/p>\n<p>They will also safeguard several vital spots along the north <br>\ncoast from possible terrorist attacks or armed robberies during <br>\nthe celebrations. Police have also warned against terrorist <br>\nsuspects on the run.<\/p>\n<p>Cirebon Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Sunaryono said the <br>\nsecurity operations called Operasi Ketupat Lodaya 2003 were under <br>\nsupervision of the West Java police headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>The security personnel will be assigned to guard the exodus <br>\nrush from the Sukra subdistrict in Indramayu regency to the <br>\nLosari subdistrict in Cirebon regency.<\/p>\n<p>Security personnel will also be posted on a number of <br>\nalternative routes in Majalengka, Kuningan, Indramayu, Cirebon <br>\nregencies and Cirebon municipality.<\/p>\n<p>Snipers will be placed in strategic places to deter any crimes <br>\nduring the exodus.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;They will be on alert 24-hours-a-day along the north coast <br>\nhighway equipped with vehicles of high agility, which can slip <br>\nthrough crammed traffic and rapidly overcome criminal <br>\nactivities,&quot; Sunaryono said. He would not say the number of <br>\nsnipers that would be deployed.<\/p>\n<p>Several areas of high economic value will be guarded by the <br>\nsnipers, including the Balongan oil refinery, the Pertamina <br>\nTreatment Unit VI in Indramayu regency, Western Java Upstream <br>\nOperation Area of Pertamina, PT BAT (British American Tobacco) <br>\nand PT Gas Indonesia in Cirebon mayoralty. They will also guard <br>\nPT Indocement Tunggak Perkasa in Palimanan, Cirebon regency.<\/p>\n<p>The operation will also be backed by elite troops from the <br>\nWest Java Mobile Brigade of Battalion C.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The oil refinery in Balongan supplies fuel for Jakarta and <br>\nWest Java. We regard it as a very vital installation,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The crime-prone spots to be manned by snipers are the areas <br>\naround the Subang-Indramayu regency borders, the Patrol area, <br>\nKarangampel-Krangkeng highway in Indramayu regency and several <br>\nother places in Cirebon, Majalengka, Cilimus and Kuningan <br>\nregencies.<\/p>\n<p>Antara also reported that Cirebon&apos;s health agency would deploy <br>\nat least 200 medical assistants and paramedics at 29 health posts <br>\nalong the north coast highway and alternative routes. Dadang <br>\nPrihadi, the head of the agency said they would be on duty around <br>\nthe clock.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Every post will be manned by six health workers who will <br>\ntake turns in three shifts. So there will be two persons on duty <br>\nin one shift ready at the public health center near the posts,&quot; <br>\nhe said.
