Muladi named Undip's best alumni<\/p>\n
SEMARANG: Former justice minister Muladi won this year's Best
\nAlumni Award from Diponegoro University (Undip) in Semarang,
\nCentral Java, defeating 72 others.<\/p>\n
The award, the first to be presented by the university to its
\nalumni, was bestowed by university rector Eko Budihardjo in a
\nceremony on Saturday night.<\/p>\n
"Pak Muladi was elected as this year's winner because he has
\nreal commitment to the nation, education and the campus,"
\nspokesman for the university Adi Nugroho said.<\/p>\n
Muladi, a former Undip rector who was born on May 26, 1943 in
\nthe Central Java city of Surakarta, once served as the justice
\nminister under the administrations of former president Soeharto
\nand his successor B.J. Habibie.<\/p>\n
"I did not really know that I was selected as the winner until
\nafter it was announced," said Muladi, one of directors at the
\nHabibie Center.<\/p>\n
Adi said Undip planned to confer similar awards to its best
\ngraduates annually in observance of the university's anniversary.<\/p>\n
He said that the award winners would be selected by a
\ncommittee comprising a team of Undip academics and leaders of the
\nuniversity's alumni association.<\/p>\n
During the ceremony, Undip also awarded Deputy Central Java
\nGovernor Ali Mufiz as its best alumnus for the faculty level.
