Flood cuts off main road on Flores<\/p>\n

A key highway connecting two regency capitals, Maumere and
\nLarantuka on the island of Flores in East Nusa Tenggara, has been
\ncut off since Friday morning as the Namon Kewa bridge collapsed
\nafter being overwhelmed by floodwaters.<\/p>\n
The floodwaters have also inundated dozens of homes in
\nKewapante district in Sikka regency, said Henyo Kerong, the
\ndeputy secretary of the Sikka administration.<\/p>\n
\"Four houses were severely damaged,\" said Henyo.<\/p>\n
Due to fears of a spread of post-flood disease, he said the
\ngovernment had sent health officials and government workers to
\nhelp residents clean up.<\/p>\n
Sikka Regent Alexander Longginus said they had also opened a
\npublic kitchen for those whose houses had been damaged by the
\nflooding.<\/p>\n
To address the vehicular traffic problem, he said the
\ngovernment would do a feasibility study on opening up an
\nalternative route following the collapse of the Namon Kewa
\nbridge.<\/p>\n
Separately in Southeast Aceh regency, dozens of people listed
\nas missing after a flash flood on Tuesday had not been located as
\nof Saturday evening.<\/p>\n
The search efforts were still underway, resident Jamaludin
\nsaid, quoted as saying by Antara.<\/p>\n
The flash flood has claimed at least 22 lives and left nearly
\n2,000 others homeless.<\/p>\n
The homeless are now staying temporarily in government
\nbuildings or tents erected in Kutacane city, the capital of
\nSoutheast Aceh regency. The flash floods on Tuesday were the
\nworst in over a decade.<\/p>\n
As of Saturday, clouds were still hanging ominously over the
\nregency and heavy rain continues to fall in spots, sparking fear
\namong the people that another deadly flash flood would hit.<\/p>",
