        "content": "<p>JP\/5\/EXODUS<\/p>\n<p>Police, private firms spoil motorists ahead of Idul Fitri<\/p>\n<p>Indra Harsaputra<br>\nThe Jakarta Post\/Surabaya<\/p>\n<p>Hidayat, a factory worker in Surabaya, is pleased to hear the <br>\nnews that the Surabaya Police are going to provide a security <br>\nservice for motorists returning to their hometowns ahead of the <br>\nIdul Fitri holiday.<\/p>\n<p>\"It makes me feel secure,\" said Hidayat, on Saturday, of the <br>\nservice, which is offered for the second time this year.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme was first conceived to prevent road robberies and <br>\naccidents in the holiday season.<\/p>\n<p>Besides providing a sense of security, the program has opened <br>\nup new opportunities for motorists. As they must travel in a <br>\ngroup, they may get to know new people or forge business <br>\nalliances on the journey home.<\/p>\n<p>The program is repeated this year as last year it was proven <br>\nsuccessful, the police said.<\/p>\n<p>Surabaya Police chief Sr. Comr. Sutarman said the program <br>\nhelped reduce traffic ahead of Idul Fitri on main streets in East <br>\nJava.<\/p>\n<p>Sutarman said the police provided security from five days <br>\nbefore the Idul Fitri holiday. The motorists -- usually a hundred <br>\nto a group -- would assemble in Surya Park, downtown Surabaya and <br>\ntwo police officers on motorcycles would escort them to the <br>\ncity's outskirts.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the police, some private firms have also provided <br>\nservices for motorists. Telecommunications firm PT Telkomsel has <br>\ndeposited free maps and guides to travel in the holiday season in <br>\nmalls, car dealerships and other public places.<\/p>\n<p>PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya, which manages the mini-market chain <br>\nAlfamart, is providing rest shelters for motorists. The shelters <br>\nare located in the vicinity of its mini-market outlets in East <br>\nJava. If a motorist spends Rp 10,000 at an outlet, they will get <br>\na free tea, coffee or mineral water.<\/p>",
