Convicts hope for better Indonesia<\/p>\n
KEDIRI, East Java: Hundreds of convicts in Kediri
\nPenitentiary, East Java, voted on Monday, with the hope that the
\ncountry will be more prosperous, justice will be delivered and
\nsecurity maintained.<\/p>\n
Rugianto, 53, an inmate, expressed concern about poor law
\nenforcement in the country. The judiciary sides with the haves
\nand powerful people, while the poor are often the victims of
\ninjustice, he said.<\/p>\n
"Having cast my vote, I hope that the future legislators and
\ngovernment will uphold justice and enforce the law," he said,
\nafter voting in the compound of the penitentiary.<\/p>\n

More school buildings burned in Aceh<\/p>\n
BANDA ACEH, Aceh: An Indonesian Military spokesman accused
\nmembers of rebels of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) of burning a
\nschool building in Bunie, Pidie regency here on Monday.<\/p>\n
Lt. Col. Asep Sapari, the spokesman of the Indonesian Military
\n(TNI) operation command in Aceh, said that the incident occurred
\non Sunday night, which sparked fear among local residents.<\/p>\n
After witnessing the school building being set on fire by
\nseveral armed men, the residents immediately contacted soldiers
\nassigned at the nearest TNI outpost to put out the fire. A group
\nof TNI soldiers then descended on the school building in search
\nof GAM members, said Asep.<\/p>\n
When they arrived there, the school had already been vacated.<\/p>\n
Last year hundreds of schools were burned down on May 19, only
\na day before TNI imposed martial law in the troubled province of
\nAceh.<\/p>\n
