        "content": "<p>JP\/4\/ago<\/p>\n<p>Graft probes giving CEOs, governors restless nights: AGO<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta Post<br>\nJakarta<\/p>\n<p>Intensive media coverage of the current crackdown on <br>\ncorruption in state institutions has created nervousness among <br>\nmany top executives of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and <br>\nregional administrations as they worry about becoming the next to <br>\nbe investigated.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney General Abdul Rahman Saleh said on Friday that many <br>\nof these executives had complained about the stress they were <br>\nsuffering, which affected their performance at work.<\/p>\n<p>\"Many governors have talked to the Minister of Home Affairs <br>\nabout this problem and the minister passed on their complaints to <br>\nthe President,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Upon hearing the news, Abdul Rahman said, the President had <br>\nordered him not to make any hasty statements to the press that <br>\ncould further upset the edgy chief executives of state banks and <br>\nstate-owned enterprises, as well as governors.<\/p>\n<p>\"The bank directors told the President that they are now <br>\nafraid of disbursing loans\" for fear that they could be faulted <br>\nif the loans turn sour in the future, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Susilo has launched an unprecedented campaign to curb rampant <br>\ncorruption in the country, targeting not only small-time graft <br>\ncases but also corruption cases committed by top government <br>\nofficials, legislators and the CEOs of state-owned companies and <br>\nbanks.<\/p>\n<p>One example is the current investigation into an alleged <br>\nmassive lending scam worth Rp 1 trillion (US$100 million) at the <br>\ngiant state-controlled Bank Mandiri.<\/p>\n<p>But Abdul Rahman urged the CEOs not to be upset with the graft <br>\ninvestigation, saying that if they had done nothing wrong then <br>\nthey should not be afraid.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the President instruction was the reason why he <br>\nhad lately been refusing to publicly comment on investigations.<\/p>",
