Nine unruly fans sent to the cooler<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The police arrested nine rowdy soccer fans for
\nhooliganism during the amateur championships at the Senayan
\nstadium on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Lt. Col. Latief Rabar said yesterday the nine were apprehended
\nat separate occasions as Persebaya played PSMS and Persegres
\nplayed Persija in tension filled matches to put the teams through
\nto the semifinals.<\/p>\n
The nine include Munadi, who was reportedly caught red handed
\nas he set off firecrackers; Farouk who threw plastic bottles,
\nBimasan who instigated a riot; Edward Sitorus, Anderson and Olan
\nPahpahan for throwing plastic bags containing urine on to the
\npitch; Relian Sipayung and Suidi Nasution for burning papers.<\/p>\n
\"All were captured in the act,\" said Latief.<\/p>\n
The frustration among the supporters of Persegres and PSMS,
\nwhich failed to move on to todays' semifinal, is apparently what
\nled to the incidents.<\/p>\n
The PSMS side, well-known for its hordes of fanatic supporters
\nliving in Jakarta, needed only a draw to qualify for the
\nsemifinal.<\/p>\n
PSMS went down 2-1 to Persebaya, though the local side was
\nsaid to have dominated the play.<\/p>\n
After play ended at 9 p.m., the soccer fans reportedly ran
\nwild on Jl. Jendral Sudirman, pelting passing vehicles with
\nstones.<\/p>\n
\"They darted away after that... police failed to capture any
\nof them,\" said Latief.<\/p>\n
But reports said there was no police presence on the street.<\/p>\n
So far, six people have reported damage to their vehicles,
\nincluding owners of a Toyota Crown sedan, two Mercedes Benz, one
\nMayasari Bhakti public bus and one Suzuki jeep.<\/p>\n
\"Police had confiscated the stones as evidence,\" said Latief.<\/p>\n
Latief said the police will tighten the security during the
\nsemifinals and championship game, which will take place at the
