MEDAN, North Sumatra: Several executives at airline companies
\nin North Sumatra province revealed on Sunday that, as the
\nelection campaign is underway, demands are on the rise from the
\npolitical parties for discounted flights.<\/p>\n
The party leaders argued for the discounted prices, saying
\nthey had to visit their supporters often during the election
\ncampaign, said Nasrizal, a general manager for Garuda Indonesia
\nAirways' Medan branch.<\/p>\n
He said that Garuda had accepted some proposals from the
\npolitical parties for the discounted flights.<\/p>\n
The general manager of Adam Air, Sunaryanto, said that his
\ncompany would not give discounted prices unless the party leaders
\nbought tickets in large groups.<\/p>\n
Domestic flight seat capacity has increased to 80 percent
\nduring the election campaign, which started on Thursday, compared

MANADO, North Sulawesi: The Synod Working Group at Masehi
\nInjili Church in Manado called on political party leaders and
\nparty campaigners on Sunday to refrain from delivering political
\nsermons in church.<\/p>\n
The call was aimed at preventing the abuse of religion for
\npolitics, according to a circular signed by the chairman of the
\nSynod Working Group, Parengkuan.<\/p>\n
In the circular, Parengkuan also called on Christians in North
\nSulawesi to vote in the upcoming elections, saying that casting

SURABAYA: Bad luck struck Muhammad Subhan, a legislative
\ncandidate with the National Awakening Party (PKB) for the
\nTrenggalek regency council, leaving him with only one eye.<\/p>\n
The accident occurred when Muhammad, who was a riding
\nmotorcycle on Friday, was on his way to a relative's house in
\nTrenggalek. As he sped along Jl. Soekarno-Hatta in Trenggalek, a
\nbamboo pole with a campaign flag on it, suddenly fell and impaled
\nMuhammad's left eye. He fell from his motorcycle with the bamboo
\nstill stuck in his eye.<\/p>\n
He was rushed to Soetomo Hospital in Surabaya, and a doctor
\nthere stated astutely deduced that the would probably lose the

CIREBON, West Java: A member at Cirebon mayoralty's General
\nElection Commission (KPUD) lashed out on Sunday at the Indonesian
\nDemocratic Party of Struggle's (PDI-P) Cirebon branch, saying
\nthat the party had violated election rules.<\/p>\n
\"According to the campaign schedule, the party should only
\ncampaign in the media on Friday. But, in addition to campaigning
\nin the media, the party also mobilized people for campaigning on
\nthe streets,\" said Darumakka, the chairman of Cirebon KPUD.<\/p>\n
Darumakka demanded that the Election Supervisory Committee
\n(Panwaslu) immediately investigate the alleged violation of the

SEMARANG: Gangs of youths supporting the Indonesian Democratic
\nof Struggle (PDI-P) clashed violently with each other during a
\nPDI-P campaign event featuring a sensual dancer in Semarang on
\nSunday.<\/p>\n
At least five people suffered from injuries sustained in the
\nclash, which happened right under the watchful eyes of several
\nPDI-P candidates, who were sitting on stage at the time also
\nenthralled with the provocative dancer's enticing steps.<\/p>\n
The candidates were Murdoko, the chairman of the Central Java
\nPDI-P branch and Deddy Soetomo, a PDI-P candidate, more noted for
\nhis acting ability rather political\/legislative acumen.<\/p>\n
The brawl began while the PDI-P crowd sang and danced, along
\nwith the dancer on stage. Suddenly, at least two groups of
\nhormonally energized youth began kicking and hitting one another.
\nHowever, the brawl ended as the security personnel calmed the two
\ngroups.<\/p>\n
PDI-P campaigners Murdoko, Deddy Soetomo and Gunawan
\nWirosarojo, a deputy chairwoman of PDI-P, expressed their concern
\nover the incident. \"Shame on them. It can tarnish the party's
