Korean Center established at UII<\/p>\n
YOGYAKARTA: In cooperation with Pai Chai University of South
\nKorea, the Yogyakarta-based Indonesian Islamic University (UII)
\nlaunched recently the Center for Korean Studies (CKS) at its
\nDemangan Baru campus compound.<\/p>\n
The official opening ceremony of the center was marked with
\nthe signing of a plaque by UII rector Luthfi Hasan and president
\nof Pai Chai University Soon Hoon Chung.<\/p>\n
According to Akhmad Muftizar Zawawi of the university's public
\nrelations department, the center will later be developed into a
\nlibrary and an information center for students.<\/p>\n
At present the center houses books, magazines, cassettes and
\nvideos about Korea and other related subjects. The interior of
\nthe center is designed to reflect Korean tastes. --JP<\/p>\n
Yogyakarta gears up for tourism expo<\/p>\n
YOGYAKARTA: Following the success of hosting last year's Tourism
\nIndonesia Mart and Expo (TIME), or Pasar Wisata Indonesia as it
\nis more popularly known here, Yogyakarta is ready to host TIME
\n2005 this Sept. 23 to Sept. 26.<\/p>\n
According to a release made available to The Jakarta Post,
\nTIME 2005 will accommodate the interests of those who sell
\nIndonesia's tourism products and services on the international
\nmarket.<\/p>\n
The event will promote many of the country's tourist
\nattractions including popular tourist destinations, top tourist
\nactivities and new tourism products.<\/p>\n
The organizing committee has so far registered 126 sellers
\nrepresenting 20 provinces across Indonesia and 86 buyer delegates
\nrepresenting 26 countries including Australia, South Africa, the
\nNetherlands, Belgium, Cambodia, Canada, China, India, Italy,
\nGermany, Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, New Zealand, Nigeria, Saudi
\nArabia, Singapore, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, the U.S.
\nand Vietnam.<\/p>\n
Last year's event was participated in by 102 buyers from 28
\ncountries and 147 sellers representing 20 provinces from across

BBY celebrates 23rd anniversary<\/p>\n
YOGYAKARTA: Commemorating its 23rd anniversary, which will fall
\non Sept. 26 this year, Bentara Budaya Yogyakarta has prepared a
\nseries of events and programs for the whole month.<\/p>\n
The "Megolitikum Yu Tum Part One" concert featuring, among
\nothers, Jaduk Ferianto's Sinten Remen Keroncong Orchestra and
\nlocal comedians Hedro Pleret and Gareng Rakasiwi opens the whole
\nseries of programs on Sept. 2.<\/p>\n
"Megolitikum Yu Tum Part Two" will be performed on Sept. 12,
\nwhile "Part Three" will be performed on Sept. 17.<\/p>\n
Other events include painting exhibitions Tanda Mata V, Ayo
\nNgguyu and Pencerahan; graphic art exhibition Muur Jangkung;
\nphoto exhibition Ayo Ngguyu, and a traditional drama or Kethoprak
\nperformance featuring noted comedians such as Marwoto, Den Baguse
\nNgarso and Yu Beruk.<\/p>\n
A film screening at the month's end will conclude the
\ncelebration. Among the films to be screened include The Gods Must
\nBe Crazy, Dumb and Dumber, Flying Tigers, Pearl Harbor, Killing
