Jaguar launches station wagon for Indonesian market<\/p>\n

Several decades ago, station wagons, or estate vehicles, were
\nquite popular here before falling out of fashion.<\/p>\n
Some people think station wagons are outdated, especially with
\nthe presence of multipurpose vehicles (MPVs) and sports utility
\nvehicles (SUVs).<\/p>\n
Which explains the general surprise when Jaguar's sole
\ndistributor for Indonesia, PT Grandauto Dinamika, launched on
\nTuesday the Jaguar X-Type Estate.<\/p>\n
"Actually, this is more a test of the market because the
\nestate market is not that big here," the company's chief
\noperating officer, Darwin Maspolim, said.<\/p>\n
"That is why we will be happy just to sell 15 to 20 units this
\nyear from expected total sales of 200 vehicles. So far, the
\ncompany has sold 1,000 cars in this country since 2001."<\/p>\n
Currently, the company also offers an X-Type saloon, S-Type
\nsaloon, new XJ long-wheelbase saloon and new XKR coupe.<\/p>\n
The X-Type Estate was first introduced at the Frankfurt Motor
\nShow on Sept. 9, 2003, and went on sale in spring of last year.<\/p>\n
It is based on the X-Type saloon with a redesigned rear
\nsection from the B-pillar back, featuring new rear doors, a
\ncompletely new roof and rear body structure, as well as new rear
\nquarter windows.<\/p>\n
In Indonesia, the Jaguar X-Type estate is offered with 5-speed
\nautomatic transmission, with a V6, 2,967 cc, 24-valve engine
\nproducing maximum power of 231 horsepower (hp) at 6,800 rpm and
\nmaximum torque of 284 Newton-meters (Nm).<\/p>\n
It can go from zero to 100 kilometers in 7.8 seconds and has a
\ntop speed of 227 kph.<\/p>\n
The X-Type Estate SE is priced at Rp 710 million (US$77,000).
\nThere are two other models, the Classic and Sport.<\/p>\n
The Classic has a younger-looking exterior than the luxury-
\nfocused SE, which features a more traditional, chrome-enhanced
\nappearance.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Sport model is set apart with its body-colored
\ngrille and an absence of chrome, larger wheels and lower-profile
\ntires.<\/p>\n
There is also a 5-speed manual transmission version and two
\nlower capacity engine options: 2,099 cc and 2,495 cc. All come
\nwith a V6 configuration.<\/p>\n
The 2.0 liter engine comes with electronic traction control,
\nwhich uses antilock braking system (ABS) sensors to detect wheel
\nspin and restrict power to either of the front wheels until full
\nadhesion is regained.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the 2.5 liter and 3.0 liter engines are equipped
\nwith the Jaguar Traction all-wheel-drive system, which by default
\ndistributes the power 40:60 to the front and rear tires.<\/p>\n
But once it senses a difference in grip between the front and
\nrear wheels, it redirects power to achieve optimum traction.<\/p>\n
The use of an all-wheel drive system provides better traction
\nand cornering at high speeds.<\/p>\n
Standard active safety features include electronic brake-force
\ndistribution (EBD) and ABS. There is also the option of dynamic
\nstability control (DCS) and emergency brake assist (EBA).<\/p>\n
Passive safety features include dual-stage air bags for driver
\nand front passenger, as well as side and curtain airbags;
\npretensioners for front seat belts; side impact protection bars;
\nand front and rear crumple zones designed to absorb and deflect
\nthe force of an impact.<\/p>\n
All vehicles are covered by two years of free service and a
\nthree-year warranty.<\/p>\n
Darwin conceded that the premium car segment commanded only a
\nsmall portion of the overall Indonesian automotive market.<\/p>\n
"Only about 4,000 premium cars were sold last year, which is
\nrelatively small compared with last year's total of 483,283
\nunits.<\/p>\n
"That's why we are concentrating on after-sales service to
\nmaintain our customers," he said.<\/p>\n
The company is currently holding a five-day customer service
\nclinic.<\/p>\n
Jaguar's regional technical manager for Asia Pacific, Steve
\nDavis, said the clinic represented not only an opportunity to
\ndevelop Jaguar's Indonesian service team, but also to get first-
\nhand feedback from Indonesian customers.<\/p>",
