        "content": "<p>JP\/13\/hutan<\/p>\n<p>Govt to set a new HTI policy<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: The government is set to issue a new package of <br>\npolicies on industrial forest estates (HTI) in the next two weeks <br>\nto develop more timber plantations, but without endangering the <br>\nforests.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Forestry M. Prakosa made the remark during a <br>\nmeeting on Thursday with a number of entrepreneurs who operate in <br>\nforest estates on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The minister initiated the meeting because he wanted to <br>\nexplore and try to find ways to attract more investors into the <br>\nindustry,&quot; said the chairwoman of the Forestry Industry <br>\nRevitalization Agency (BRIK), Soewarni, who attended the closed-<br>\ndoor meeting, told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>BRIK is an agency established by the Ministry of Forestry and <br>\nMinistry of Industry and Trade but managed by businesspeple to <br>\nfind solutions to problems in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>Soewarni refused to to go into detail about the new policy.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The move may alleviate the number of unemployment in the <br>\nforestry sector,&quot; she said, while referring to a recent <br>\nprojection by the Indonesia Employers&apos; Association (Apindo) that <br>\nsome 600,000 forestry workers might lose job this year.<\/p>\n<p>Industrial timber estate companies manage a total 2.7 million <br>\nhectares of the country&apos;s forest area. Such companies have been <br>\nblamed for contributing to the destruction of environment due to <br>\ntheir failure in rehabilitating and sustaining their resources.<\/p>",
