        "content": "<p>JP\/13\/Asean<\/p>\n<p>RI to host first ASEAN business, investment summit<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta Post<br>\nJakarta<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia will host the first ASEAN Business and Investment <br>\nSummit on the popular resort island of Bali on Oct. 5-7, which <br>\nwill involve the region's heads of government and business <br>\nleaders.<\/p>\n<p>The event will be held in conjunction with the Association of <br>\nSoutheast Asian Nations (ASEAN) leaders summit. Heads of <br>\ngovernment from Japan, China, South Korea and India are expected <br>\nto attend both summits.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of the organizing committee Tanri Abeng said the <br>\nbusiness and investment summit was expected to help boost <br>\ninvestment and trade activities among the region's 500 million <br>\npeople. Southeast Asia has a combined gross domestic product of <br>\nabout US$700 billion.<\/p>\n<p>\"There will be a lot of business discussions and hopefully <br>\nsome transactions,\" he told The Jakarta Post in an interview on <br>\nWednesday.<\/p>\n<p>He expected around 1,000 businessmen to attend the summit.<\/p>\n<p>Tanri said the summit would not only consist of a dialogue <br>\nforum between businesses and government leaders, but also include <br>\na \"business matching\" forum where businesspeople could develop <br>\nnetworks and possibly make business transactions.<\/p>\n<p>Meetings and discussions will be organized around seven <br>\nindustry areas considered by the committee as the most attractive <br>\n(see box).<\/p>\n<p>Tanri hoped local business leaders could take advantage of the <br>\nprogram to develop new networks.<\/p>\n<p>\"State-owned companies will also be encouraged to participate <br>\nto promote their products or services, and hopefully could even <br>\nattract new investment in their particular sectors.\"<\/p>\n<p>Tanri said the committee had invited 50 of Indonesia's most <br>\nattractive regencies to participate in the event where they can <br>\npresent business opportunities in their respective regions.<\/p>\n<p>Box<\/p>\n<p>ASEAN groupings for seven industry sectors<\/p>\n<p>1. Agriculture, plantations, food processing, fisheries, timber <br>\nand wood products<br>\n2. Infrastructure, energy, mining, industrial tools and heavy <br>\nequipment, transportation, chemicals, and plastics<br>\n3. Finance, banking, property<br>\n4. Logistics, tourism, trade<br>\n5. Education, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, herbal medicines<br>\n6. Electronics, information technology and telecommunications<br>\n7. Consumer products, textiles, garments, shoes, jewelry<\/p>",
