        "content": "<p>JP\/11\/J06<\/p>\n<p>Canadian firm to invest US$5b in fish-processing<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta Post<br>\nJakarta<\/p>\n<p>A Canadian company is ready to invest some US$5 billion for the<br>\ndevelopment of a fish-processing business in Indonesia, an<br>\nofficial said on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Soempeno Putro, a senior official of the Marine and Fishery<br>\nMinistry, said in Bogor, West Java, that a Canadian company which<br>\nhas joined the Chianti Group would develop a squid and shrimp-<br>\nprocessing business as &quot;ready to eat food&quot; in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Next week, they (investors) will come to Indonesia to follow<br>\nup on their plan to invest here,&quot; Soempeno said as quoted by<br>\nAntara.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, such demand for &quot;ready to eat food&quot; with squid<br>\nand shrimp as its ingredient is big in Canada, while the<br>\ncountry&apos;s capability to meet the demand was limited because of a<br>\nshortage of raw material.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, he said, the Canadian company would forge a<br>\ncooperation with some local shrimp-processing industries,<br>\nrespectively in Bangka, Bangka-Belitung province and Ambon in<br>\nMaluku province.<\/p>\n<p>Soempeno who was also a former Indonesian attache for<br>\nagriculture at the Indonesian embassy in Belgium, said that more<br>\ncompanies in other countries such as the Netherlands and France<br>\nhad also expressed their readiness to invest in Indonesia&apos;s<br>\nfishery sector.<\/p>\n<p>China has already made an investment of about US$630 million<br>\nfor the development of supporting fishery facilities and cold<br>\nstorage in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;To this point, they (investors) only asked for a guarantee of<br>\nsecurity and political stability in the country,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Soempeno further said that if Indonesia could at least attract<br>\nmore investors from European countries, it would certainly reduce<br>\nobstacles in the export of fish products to the region.<\/p>",
