Jakarta - Seventh President of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has\nagreed that the KPK Law should be reverted to its old version. KPK\nDeputy Chairman Johanis Tanak responded to Jokowi\u2019s proposal.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat exactly is there to revert? A law isn\u2019t something you can\nborrow and return after you\u2019re done using it,\u201d Tanak said when contacted\non Sunday (15\/2\/2026).<\/p>\n
Tanak said the KPK is currently operating based on both the old and\nnew laws. He emphasized that the KPK as an anti-corruption institution\nis focused on preventing and eradicating corruption.<\/p>\n
\u201cRight now, the KPK operates based on both the old KPK Law and the\nnew KPK Law. Under the new KPK Law, the legal status of KPK employees\nhas become clear as civil servants (ASN),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you want the KPK to work independently without interference from\nother institutions, the amendment to the KPK Law should only concern\nplacing the KPK within the Judicial branch. So the institutions within\nthe Judicial branch would consist of the Supreme Court and the KPK. Both\nthe Supreme Court and the KPK would each stand independently\u2014the Supreme\nCourt standing independently within the Judicial branch, and likewise\nthe KPK standing independently within the Judicial branch,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n
Previously, Jokowi agreed with former KPK Chairman Abraham Samad\u2019s\nproposal to revert the KPK Law to its old version. Jokowi noted that the\nrevised version of the law was initiated by the House of Representatives\n(DPR).<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, I agree, it would be good to revert the KPK Law to the old\nversion, because the revision was initiated by the DPR. Don\u2019t get it\nwrong\u2014it was a DPR initiative,\u201d Jokowi said, as reported by detikJateng\non Friday (13\/2).<\/p>\n
Jokowi acknowledged that the KPK Law was revised during his\npresidency at the DPR\u2019s initiative. However, he emphasized that he did\nnot sign the revised law.<\/p>\n
