Cilegon (ANTARA) \u2013 A joint team from PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry, the\npolice and other stakeholders is recording and validating the passenger\nmanifest of those safely evacuated after a fire on the KM Batumandi as\nit was docking at Pier VI of Merak Port, Cilegon, West Java, on\nTuesday.<\/p>\n
ASDP service staff in mint-green uniforms, accompanied by police\nofficers and other personnel, recorded the details of passengers\narriving at the port.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe manifest is being checked again to ensure that all passengers\naboard the KM Batumandi are accurately accounted for, safe and properly\nassisted following their evacuation from the sea,\u201d Banten Police Public\nRelations Chief Commissioner Maruli Ahiles Hutapea said in a statement\nin Cilegon on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
On-site staff also provided initial psychological support and basic\nmedical care, and arranged logistical assistance for passengers affected\nby the incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis step reflects the ferry operator\u2019s commitment to service and\nresponsibility to ensure the safety of all passengers, as well as to\nmatch the official manifest against the actual number of people\nsuccessfully evacuated,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The fire broke out aboard the KM Batumandi near Merak Besar Island on\nTuesday while the vessel was manoeuvring to dock at Pier VI of Merak\nPort, Cilegon, at around 14:52 WIB.<\/p>\n
ASDP Corporate Secretary Windy Andale said the vessel had departed\nBakauheni Port at around 14:52 WIB. At about 16:15 WIB, shore-based\nstaff spotted sparks at the rear of the vessel, on the upper deck\ndesignated for small vehicles.<\/p>\n
The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
