        "content": "<p>Pekanbaru \u2014 A combined team from Manggala Agni Daerah Operasi\nSumatera IV\/Pekanbaru, the military and police, and the Regional\nDisaster Management Agency (BPBD) continues battling to extinguish a\nforest and peatland fire (karhutla) spanning 15 hectares in Rimbo\nPanjang Village, Kampar Regency.<\/p>\n<p>Edwin Putra, Technical Coordinator for forest and peatland fire\ncontrol at the Sumatra Forest and Peatland Fire Management Centre,\nSector II, stated that extinguishing efforts at this location have\nentered their fourth day. The suppression process is hampered by\npeatland conditions and limited water sources around the fire\nlocation.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past four days, the joint team has continuously undertaken\nsuppression efforts from morning to evening. However, by the fourth day,\nonly about one hectare of the total burned area has been successfully\nextinguished.<\/p>\n<p>Edwin explained that another challenge in the suppression process is\nfire spreading beneath the peatland surface. This situation is\nexacerbated by clear weather and winds blowing at approximately 11 km\nper hour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWater sources are also limited. We are currently relying on a canal\napproximately 70 centimetres deep and 1.5 metres wide,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the 15-hectare area is dominated by shrubs, acacia,\nferns, and alang-alang grass. Suppression operations are being conducted\nusing one Strada vehicle, one ZS Power pump engine, two mini strike\nportable pumps, and dozens of suction and discharge hoses.<\/p>\n<p>The suppression strategy is carried out through two routes using the\nZS Power engine, supplemented by two additional routes using mini strike\npumps to accelerate water supply and fire suppression.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the fire remains in extended suppression status. The joint\nteam remains on standby at the location to prevent hotspots from\nreigniting and to ensure that fire beneath the peatland layer is\ncompletely extinguished.<\/p>",
