Batu, East Java \u2014 A joint task force consisting of various agencies\nis currently managing a forest fire in the Mount Butak area, East Java,\non Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The Head of the Batu City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD)\nstated that the fire at Mount Butak broke out at approximately 11:00\nWIB.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is true that the fire is located at Mount Butak; the\nextinguishing process is ongoing, involving the BPBD, volunteers,\nManggala Agni, the TNI, and the Polri,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to preliminary information received from the Batu City BPBD\nOperations Control Centre (Pusdalops), the forest fire has hit the Plot\n100, Post 3 area of Mount Butak.<\/p>\n
He noted that the fire location does not fall within the\nadministrative territory of Batu City, but rather within Malang Regency,\nEast Java.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe vegetation at Mount Butak is very sparse, consisting mainly of\ndry litter, such as weeds and grass, which can burn easily. If not\naddressed immediately, the area affected could reach several hectares\nwithin seconds,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
In addition to the weather, he stated that the firefighting efforts\nface challenges due to the terrain, which is dominated by hilly\nareas.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince this is a mountainous region, extraordinary stamina is\nrequired to approach the site of the fire,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He explained that current firefighting efforts rely on conventional\nground-based methods, where officers on-site are spraying water and\nscouring the area to ensure no hotspots or new flames emerge.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, Suwoko admitted that ground-based efforts may not be\nsufficient. His office will request assistance for aerial firefighting\nor water bombing.<\/p>\n
