Joint inquiry team to question 10 Pakistanis<\/p>\n

The Joint Inquiry Team led by the National Police will
\nreinterrogate 10 Pakistanis who were previously questioned over
\nthe Oct. 12 bombings in Bali, in line with new findings at the
\nblast site on Friday.<\/p>\n
Brig. Gen. Edward Aritonang, spokesman for the inquiry team,
\nsaid the police had delivered summons to the Pakistanis, who
\narrived on the island months before the tragedy, to appear for
\nquestioning at the provincial police headquarters in Denpasar.<\/p>\n
Aritonang declined to say what the team had found at the blast
\nsite or where the foreigners now were. He said they were staying
\nwith a Muslim foundation that had guaranteed their availability
\nif they were needed for further questioning.<\/p>\n
The police brought dozens of witnesses back to the blast site
\nin Kuta on Friday to try to reconstruct the events leading up to
\nthe attack.<\/p>\n
Armed officers cordoned off the area as the witnesses were led
\nalong Jl. Legian in Kuta, where two bombs exploded on Oct. 12
\noutside two popular nightclubs, Paddy's and Sari.<\/p>\n
\"We hope that some witnesses will perhaps remember things they
\nmay have forgotten when they return to the crime scene,\" said
\nAritonang.<\/p>\n
The process is expected to continue on Saturday.<\/p>\n
A multinational team, comprising more than 100 officers from
\nAustralia, the United States, Britain, France, Germany and Japan,
\nhave joined the National Police to investigate the attack.<\/p>\n
Suspicion has fallen on Jamaah Islamiyah, believed to be a
\nSoutheast Asian ally of al-Qaeda, but no suspects have been
\narrested and police have been tight-lipped about their findings.<\/p>\n
Aritonang said three people whose sketches have been
\ndistributed to officers nationwide may have carried out the Bali
\nbombing.<\/p>\n
\"The three possible suspects were thought to be the executors,
\ntheir faces were recognized at the scene of the blasts. The
\nconclusion about the group was based on our finding that the bomb
\nblasts had been carefully and professionally planned and
\nexecuted.<\/p>\n
\"The police are still investigating all of these elements,\" he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
He later said the sketches, prepared from witness
\ndescriptions, would not be released to the public until police
\nwere certain the three Indonesian men carried out the deadly
\nattack.<\/p>\n
An overlap between the police and the military in the
\ninvestigation process came to surface following a claim by a team
\nof military intelligence officers led by the National
\nIntelligence Agency (BIN), which said they had identified
\n\"several suspects.\"<\/p>\n
Aritonang said the police had no idea whether these \"several
\nsuspects\" matched the three possible suspects in the police
\nsketches.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian police are responsible for locating the
\nperpetrators of the bombing, and are being assisted by police and
\nexperts from several countries, including Australia, in
\nforensics, drawing sketches and medical matters.<\/p>\n
Separately, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) will hold a
\nclosed reconstruction at the blasts site on Friday night, with
\nfour witnesses believed to be employees of Paddy's. The witnesses
\nwill be asked to go to the blast sites to reconstruct what was
\nhappening before, during and after the blasts.<\/p>\n
This latest move comes after the Australian team completed
\nmaking a three-dimensional I-Site photograph, which can help
\nwitnesses recall what was happening during the blasts, and help
\npolice detect whether certain chemical materials were left at the
\nsite.<\/p>\n
Entering the 13th day of the investigation, no person or group
\nhas been identified as being responsible for the tragedy, even
\nthough over 170 witnesses, including the Pakistanis, have been
\nquestioned.<\/p>\n
The joint investigation team also revealed last Sunday that it
\nwas currently focusing on three other witnesses -- a Balinese
\nwoman who was recently flown to Australia for treatment of
\ninjuries sustained in the blast, and two fishermen from Islamic
\nKepaon village -- but failed to provide any link to the bombing.<\/p>\n
The woman, believed to be Desi Williams, was reportedly
\nquestioned by the police only a day after the blast in relation
\nto a \"drug problem\". Desi's husband, an Australian, is currently
\njailed at Kerobokan penitentiary here on drug charges.<\/p>\n
Besides Desi, three other Balinese women have been evacuated
\nto Australia for medical treatment. They are Kadek Alit
\nMargarini, who died in Australia, Chusnul Chotimah and Ngasti
\nBudi Rahayu.<\/p>",
