Joint border guard posts to be moved<\/p>\n
KUALA LUMPUR (Antara): Indonesia and Malaysia will move the
\nlocations of their joint border guard posts in Borneo to spots
\nwhere according to their present security interests close
\nsurveillance is more needed, reports here said.<\/p>\n
Malaysian Army Commander Gen. Md Hashim Hussein was reported
\nsaying in Kuching, the joint border guard posts needed to be
\nmoved because ever since the communist menace in Malaysia had
\nceased, their role had changed.<\/p>\n
\"We must follow every new development, and accordingly, we
\nwill soon determine the posts' new locations,\" he said after
\nlaunching a joint Indonesian-Malaysian military exercise dubbed
\nKekar Malindo 2000 at Penrissen, Kuching, Sarawak on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
He said there were now two joint security posts on the border
\nbetween the Eastern Malaysian state of Sarawak and Indonesia's
\nWest Kalimantan province, namely at Biawak and Lubok Antu. The
\ntwo posts would bemoved to yet undetermined new locations, he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The Kekar Malindo 2000 joint exercise which would last until
\nAug. 5 involves 237 military men, 147 from Malaysia and the rest
\nfrom Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Hashim said the two countries had been holding joint exercises
\nannually for the past 27 years with the main purpose of keeping
\nup good coordination between their military forces.<\/p>\n
Indonesian Deputy Army Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Endrea Tono
\nSutarto, meanwhile, said the exercise would strengthen military
\nrelations between the two countries.<\/p>",
