Jobless court UI students<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): People who have lost their jobs due to the
\neconomic crisis have found that students are sympathetic to their
\nplight.<\/p>\n
Dozens of workers from Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi
\nflocked to the University of Indonesia (UI) campus in Depok, just
\nsouth of here, where they sought ideas on what to do next.<\/p>\n
\"I have sought help from numerous institutions but have only
\nbeen offered empty promises,\" said Sumartini, 31, who was
\ndismissed from her job in a Tangerang company three months ago
\nwithout severance pay.<\/p>\n
\"We came here because the university has declared itself to be
\nthe Campus for People's Struggle.\"<\/p>\n
Accompanied by activists from various Non-Governmental
\nOrganizations in Jakarta and Bandung, they told student activists
\nof their misery after losing their jobs.<\/p>\n
The unemployed people and NGO activists were met by activists
\nof the UI Forum for Women's Action.<\/p>\n
The dismissed workers, NGO activists and students called on
\nthe government to take action against employers who dismissed
\ntheir employees without observing the proper procedures, Antara
