Mornings, afternoons, evenings and nights, Jl. Pasar Senen
\nfrom Wayang Orang Bharata to Pasar Senen is jammed causing a lot
\nof stress among road users, especially private vehicle drivers.<\/p>\n
I made several observations last week and found that
\ncongestion was caused by undisciplined public transportation
\ndrivers of Mikrolets, Metrominis, PPD and Mayasari city buses.<\/p>\n
These drivers stop anywhere they please to pick up passengers.
\nThey steer their vehicle at any angle to approach prospective
\nclients. Traffic wardens are often incapable of handling the
\nsituation. They would rather leave the trouble spots unattended.<\/p>\n
Sidewalk traders create an additional headache. They often
\ndisplay their goods at busy intersections, making the street
\nnarrower for traffic.<\/p>\n
This situation exists because the guardians of traffic order
\nhave established a "spiritual bond" with the sidewalk traders and
\nthe city transportation drivers.<\/p>\n
It is said that each trader contributes between Rp 3,000 and
\nRp 5,000 each day to those in charge of security and cleanliness,
\nwhile drivers grease the palms of those in charge of traffic
\norder.<\/p>\n
The reality shows there is collusion between traders and
\ndrivers on the one hand, and law enforcers on the other. This
\nshameful act also affects the public, especially when the traffic
\ncomes to a complete halt.<\/p>\n
I appeal to Jakarta's governor and his agencies to immediately
\ntake steps to overcome this deplorable situation. If the problem
\nis not solved soon, it will get worse.<\/p>\n
