Jusuf Kalla\u2019s (JK) side has responded to the report by the Indonesian\nChristian Youth Movement (GAMKI) to the Metro Jaya Police regarding a\nviral lecture on \u2018dying as a martyr\u2019. JK assesses that the report arose\ndue to a video clip that was narrated out of context.<\/p>\n
\u201cAccording to me, before reporting, it is best to thoroughly examine\nthe viral content. Because it is clipped and given a narrative that\ndeviates from its substance,\u201d said JK\u2019s Spokesperson, Husain Abdullah,\nwhen confirmed on Monday (13\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n
Husain explained that JK\u2019s lecture was delivered in the context of\neducation to reconcile conflicting parties. The lecture was given by JK\nwhen speaking at UGM on 5 March 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe core message delivered by Mr JK in the lecture at UGM on 5\/3 was\na kind of lesson on how to reconcile two conflicting parties. Mr JK\nexpressed the views of the conflicting parties during the Poso and Ambon\nriots, or the sociological reality during the conflict, not Mr JK\u2019s\npersonal opinion,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Husain elaborated that in the lecture, JK described the conditions\nduring the Poso and Ambon conflicts. At that time, he said, both\nconflicting parties used religious narratives to justify violent\nactions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe reality at that time, both conflicting parties (Muslim and\nChristian) used religious jargon to kill each other. Their understanding\nor belief, both Muslims and Christians, if they kill the opponent or are\nkilled, they will enter paradise. That is why the Poso and Ambon\nconflicts are called SARA-tinged conflicts, which were difficult to\nstop, claiming thousands of lives. 2,000 people died in Poso, while in\nAmbon it reached 5,000 people killed,\u201d Husain added.<\/p>\n
He emphasised that JK did not justify such actions. According to him,\nJK instead assessed that this understanding must be corrected because\nboth parties were equally wrong.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo address it, according to Mr JK, the understanding of the\nconflicting groups must be straightened out. Because both have made\nmistakes. So Mr JK said you will all go to hell if you kill each other,\nnot enter paradise. Because no religion teaches to act that way,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n
Husain stressed that JK\u2019s statement was not a personal opinion, but a\ndepiction of the social reality during the conflict presented as a\nlesson.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo what Mr JK conveyed is not a personal opinion, but the social\nreality at that time that developed among those in conflict. This is\nwhat Mr JK presented as a lesson learned, recounting the approach he\ntook when seeking to reconcile the conflicting parties in Poso and\nAmbon, by first changing the paradigm that motivated them during the\nconflict,\u201d Husain asserted.<\/p>\n
It is known that GAMKI reported JK to the Metro Jaya Police after his\nlecture video on \u2018dying as a martyr\u2019 went viral on Sunday (12\/4). Jusuf\nKalla was reported for alleged religious blasphemy.<\/p>\n
