Ridwan Djapong (68), a resident of Tintingan Village, Pagimana
District, Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi, said the National Health
Insurance (JKN) programme provided protection while he fought heart
disease. “The illness I suffer from often recurs suddenly. Shortness of
breath and chest pain have caused me to need intensive treatment and
referral to hospital several times,” said Ridwan in Banggai on Sunday.
In such conditions, Ridwan had few options other than to seek medical
help immediately. “If I get shortness of breath and chest pain, I cannot
do much. I must be examined by a doctor immediately. Sometimes I am
referred to hospital for further treatment,” he said. He explained that
before understanding the benefits of the JKN programme, his biggest
worry was the cost of treatment. According to Ridwan, suffering from
heart disease requires routine check-ups, periodic examinations, and
regular medication, which would cost a lot. Since registering as a JKN
participant in the Contribution Assistance Recipient (PBI) segment,
Ridwan has felt calmer because all health services he undergoes, both at
first-level health facilities and when referred to hospital, are covered
according to applicable regulations. “Alhamdulillah, I am registered as
a PBI participant. So every check-up and when I am referred, I do not
have to think about the cost. I can focus on treatment so that my
condition is maintained,” he expressed gratefully. According to Ridwan,
the JKN programme brings great benefits to people with economic
limitations because everyone can access health services without worry.
“The existence of the JKN programme means health services can be
accessed by anyone. More and more people are being helped by this JKN,”
said Ridwan. Ridwan also appreciated the service he received during
treatment, where health workers gave good attention and explanations
about his condition, so he understood the importance of maintaining a
healthy lifestyle and having regular check-ups.
",
