        "content": "<p>Jakarta, VIVA \u2013 Former Indonesian Vice Presidents (Wapres), Jusuf\nKalla (JK), stated that individuals originating from outside the island\nof Java find it difficult to become President of Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>This was conveyed by JK while delivering a speech at a celebration\nevent for its 84th anniversary held at his residence in South Jakarta,\nSaturday, May 16, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>JK initially recounted his entry into the world of politics. At that\ntime, JK was invited to join the government of the 4th President of\nIndonesia, Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I entered politics, it wasn\u2019t intentional. I was asked by a\nmember of the MPR (People\u2019s Consultative Assembly) representing the\nregion. He was then\nreappointed as Vice President accompanying Joko Widodo (Jokowi) as\nPresident in the 2014-2019 period.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, I was a member of the DPR first, then Minister, then\nCoordinating Minister for Social Welfare, and finally Vice President,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n<p>JK admitted that he had tried to run in the 2009 Presidential\nelection with Wiranto as his running mate.
