Former Constitutional Court (MK) Chief Justice Jimly Asshiddiqie\nbelieves that Saiful Mujani\u2019s statements regarding the discourse on\ntoppling President Prabowo do not need to be taken seriously by the\ngovernment.<\/p>\n
According to him, the statements reflect Mujani\u2019s unmeasured manner\nof speaking and language.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet it be, Saiful Mujani\u2019s manner of speaking and language is indeed\nunmeasured. It\u2019s easily seen as provocative,\u201d said Jimly when contacted\non Friday (10\/4).<\/p>\n
This constitutional law expert then criticised the substance of\nMujani\u2019s statements, which he deemed not in line with the\nconstitution.<\/p>\n
According to him, the replacement of the president is regulated in\nthe constitution through the impeachment mechanism.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe doesn\u2019t believe in the mechanism already regulated in the\nconstitution, namely impeachment, but instead dreams of it through\npeople\u2019s power. Let it be a lesson for Saiful,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He stated that Mujani\u2019s statements would also have no impact, as\nopposing voices are equally balanced.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe President and his team also do not need to respond too\nseriously, just take it easy because it won\u2019t have an effect. In fact,\nrational voices rejecting it are also balanced. The government does not\nneed to respond too seriously, so as not to further widen the tension\nbetween state vs society,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, Jimly also reminded the government not to act\narrogantly in responding to developing public sentiments.<\/p>\n
According to him, if the government acts challengingly, public anger\nwill spread even further.<\/p>\n
\u201cA softer communication from the president himself is needed. Reduce\nexplosive speeches that are not measured. Learn from Pak Harto\u2019s\nleadership management which was softer with measured language,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya had previously responded to\nSaiful Mujani\u2019s statements regarding the call to overthrow the\ngovernment. He claimed not to know about Mujani\u2019s statements yet.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have a lot of work, I haven\u2019t seen what he said,\u201d said Teddy at\nthe Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (7\/4).<\/p>\n
Besides himself, he mentioned that President RI Prabowo Subianto is\nalso busy with more important matters. He said Prabowo is focusing on\nmore strategic things.<\/p>\n
\u201cEspecially the President, the President is handling big things,\nfocusing on more strategic matters,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Saiful Mujani stated that his statements calling for\nconsolidation to topple President Prabowo Subianto are not a form of\ntreason, but part of a political stance.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe question is whether my statement can be called treason? I\nemphasise that it is not treason, but political engagement, namely a\npolitical stance or a stance expressed on political issues in front of\nmany people. The politics in that event mainly relates to President\nPrabowo\u2019s performance,\u201d said Mujani in a written statement.<\/p>\n
He explained that a political stance is one level below political\nparticipation or political action. Political participation, he said, is\nthe core of democracy.<\/p>\n
Mujani said there is no democracy without political\nparticipation.<\/p>\n
\u201cPolitical participation or actions aimed at the public interest take\nmany forms. For example, participating in elections, campaigning,\ncontributing to parties or candidates, participating in political\nactions like demonstrations, strikes, sabotage, and so on, done\npeacefully. Actions to peacefully remove a president are political\nparticipation.
