Content creator Jerhemy Owen is using the TikTok platform to drive\ntangible environmental conservation action. Through a programme called\n\u2018Wenanam\u2019, he is inviting the public to contribute to regreening\ncritical land in Aceh affected by natural disasters.<\/p>\n
The Wenanam programme is designed to make public participation easy\nthrough digital activity. Residents can channel support for one tree\nseedling simply by sharing Jerhemy\u2019s creative content on TikTok 15\ntimes. In addition, the public can also donate funds or register as\nvolunteers through the official page\nhub.wwf.id\/id\/Dukung-Wenanam-2026.<\/p>\n
When met in South Jakarta on Tuesday (19\/8), Jerhemy explained that\nthe idea emerged after discussions with his colleagues at TikTok\nfollowing his attendance at the UN climate change conference in\nAzerbaijan in November 2024. The environmental science graduate from the\nNetherlands wants to combine the power of social media with measurable\nreforestation efforts.<\/p>\n
After successfully planting 10,000 seedlings in Bogor throughout\n2025, Jerhemy has set a much larger target for 2026: 250,000 tree\nseedlings. The main focus of this planting is Aceh, which experienced\nsevere flooding and landslides in 2025.<\/p>\n
Planting in Aceh is not only aimed at post-disaster land recovery but\nalso as a long-term solution to conflict between humans and wildlife.\nJerhemy explained that the selection of tree species is being carried\nout strategically.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe plant in locations that were truly impacted by the disaster to\nrestore damaged land. Including in villages so that there is no longer\nconflict between elephants and humans,\u201d said Jerhemy.<\/p>\n
The strategy includes using trees that elephants dislike as natural\nbarriers, as well as planting trees that elephants favour in certain\nareas. In addition, productive seedlings such as coffee and durian are\nalso being provided to local residents so that the yields can improve\nthe community\u2019s economy within the next two years.<\/p>\n
Beyond the reforestation focus, Jerhemy is also running a programme\ncalled \u2018Wengalir\u2019. This programme aims to help procure clean water\ninfrastructure, such as tanks and pipes, for residents in Wokowoe and\nWokodekororo villages in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).<\/p>\n
Through educational content on digital platforms, Jerhemy says he has\nreceived a positive response, particularly through the stage comment\nfeature on TikTok.
