A Singaporean suspected of theft, Tang Khen Seng, 32, alias
\nJeremy, was moved to the Jakarta prosecutor's office on Friday
\nafter his case file was declared complete.<\/p>\n
City Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Tjiptono said investigators
\nhad sent Jeremy to the Jakarta prosecutors's office upon
\nreceiving a letter stating that his case file was already
\ncomplete.<\/p>\n
\"We finished his case file prior to his escape. We don't need
\nto keep him here any longer. The faster he is transferred the
\nbetter for us,\" said Tjiptono.<\/p>\n
The head of the intelligence unit at the Jakarta Prosecutor's
\nOffice confirmed on Friday that his office had Jeremy in custody
\npending trial.<\/p>\n
\"We have him here. We are now preparing indictments against
\nhim. We hope he can be tried within a week,\" Farried told The
\nJakarta Post.<\/p>\n
He did not say where Jeremy was detained.<\/p>\n
Jeremy was first arrested last Dec. 7 following allegations
\nthat he had broken into lockers located in spa areas of several
\nfive-star hotels in the capital.<\/p>\n
However, he managed to get out of police detention after
\nallegedly bribing five guards on duty. The five have been
\ndetained for questioning.<\/p>\n
After several days on the run, Jeremy was arrested again last
\nTuesday evening by local police at the Conrad Hotel in Denpasar,
\nBali while allegedly trying to steal guest personal belongings in
\nthe hotel's locker room.<\/p>\n
Upon his arrival from Denpasar on Wednesday, Jeremy told
\nseveral TV stations that police guards offered him a way to
\nescape in exchange for money.<\/p>\n
Tjiptono denied allegations that the police's move in quickly
\ntransferring Jeremy to prosecutors was aimed at shifting public
\nattention from the alleged bribery of the five police guards.<\/p>\n
\"We continue to detain and question them. However, we haven't
\nfound any evidence to prove that they received bribes,\" said
\nTjiptono.<\/p>",
