Jepara calm after fatal clash<\/p>\n
JEPARA, Central Java: The tension had eased by Monday in the
\nneighboring villages of Bandungharjo and Tulakan in Keling
\ndistrict of Jepara regency, after a vicious clash between
\nresidents of the two villagers on Friday.<\/p>\n
Five victims were buried at their respective villages.<\/p>\n
Police detectives have so far arrested nobody in the clash,
\nwhich also injured dozens of people. The officers have questioned
\nsome of the villagers and were collecting weapons used in the
\nfight.<\/p>\n
The Jepara authorities met with community leaders, asking for
\nhelp in calming down the villagers and securing the areas, Antara
\nreported.<\/p>\n
\"The incident should be ended here. There should be no
\nrevenge, which could only cause losses to the people themselves,\"
\nregent Soenarto said.<\/p>\n
The rivalry started on Wednesday at midnight when a man from
\nBandungharjo assaulted a Tulakan woman during a dangdut music
\nshow at Tulakan.<\/p>\n
The unidentified man from Bandungharjo may not have known that
\nthe woman is the wife of the organizer of the show, which took
\nplace near her house.<\/p>\n
Her husband, Karmadi, halted the show and, with a group of 20
\nmen, combed Bandungharjo for the young man. Failing to find him,
\nthe group attacked five men at a coffee shop, damaging the shop
\nand three motorcycles.<\/p>\n
Some 25 upset Bandungharjo residents drove to Tulakan the next
\nday and damaged Karmadi's house.<\/p>\n
On Friday, Karmadi recruited about 25 people from Tulakan and
\nother surrounding villages and led the men, armed with machetes,
\nto Bandungharjo.<\/p>\n
Upon their arrival, they burned down a house and damaged two
\nothers before being mobbed by scores of Bandungharjo villagers.
