Indonesia’s Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) fell 1.88% to 6,031.28 on Thursday, with infrastructure, energy and basic materials shares leading losses. The decline came amid concern over global monetary policy and rising US Treasury yields, despite strong demand at a US bond auction that later pushed yields lower.

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) came
under heavy pressure at the close of trading on Thursday (8 October
2026). At the end of the second session, the JCI stood at 6,031.28, down
115.44 points, or 1.88%. Trading volume totalled 567.04 million lots,
with transactions worth Rp11,256.53 billion.

The index opened higher at 6,154.97 at about 9am Jakarta time, and
briefly reached an intraday high of 6,179.09. The advance did not last:
selling pressure emerged and pulled the index down to around 6,120
before 10am. After a limited rebound to about 6,130 at around 10am, the
JCI resumed its gradual decline.

Selling intensified in the second session. The JCI fell below the
psychological 6,100 mark and continued down to between 6,060 and 6,080.
At about 3pm, the index was trading between 6,040 and 6,060 before
sinking to its intraday low of 6,031.28 at the end of the monitored
period.

The JCI’s trading range for the day was 6,031.28 to 6,179.09.

The decline reflected losses in 518 stocks, while 258 were unchanged
and only 187 rose.

Refinitiv data cited infrastructure as the main drag, with the sector
falling 5%, followed by energy, down 2.7%, and basic materials, down
2.6%.

The stocks weighing on the JCI included PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia
(Persero) Tbk (BBRI), PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk (AMMN), PT Bank
Mandiri (Persero) Tbk (BMRI), PT Barito Renewables Energy Tbk (BREN) and
PT Bumi Resources Minerals Tbk (BRMS).

Stocks that helped cushion the decline included PT Sumber Alfaria
Trijaya Tbk (AMRT), PT Kalbe Farma Tbk (KLBF), PT Astra International
Tbk (ASII), PT Global Digital Niaga Tbk (BELI) and PT Apollo Global
Interactive Tbk (APOL).

Market sentiment on Thursday (8 October 2026) was expected to be
influenced by developments in Indonesia’s external resilience and the
direction of global monetary policy. Indonesia’s foreign exchange
reserves had edged down the previous day, although coverage remained
above international standards; data on the country’s reserve money was
also released.

Attention on Thursday turned to the minutes of the Federal Open
Market Committee (FOMC) meeting, published in the early hours, and
Indonesia’s consumer confidence report.

A hawkish Federal Reserve outlook, a stronger dollar index and
elevated US Treasury yields could put pressure on equities and the
rupiah. Minutes from the European Central Bank and US unemployment
claims were also expected to inform assessments of interest-rate
prospects, exchange rates and risk assets.

US Treasury yields fell on Wednesday after a nearly US$40 billion
auction of 10-year notes attracted strong demand. The decline followed a
period in which yields had climbed to their highest levels since
2002.

The 10-year US Treasury yield, a key benchmark for equity markets,
reached 5.365% during Wednesday’s trading, its highest level since April
2002.

Yields on longer-dated bonds also rose. The 30-year Treasury yield
briefly touched 5.732% before retreating following strong demand at the
auction.

The US Treasury sold US$39 billion in 10-year notes at a yield of
5.300%, the highest level this century. Strong demand subsequently
helped bring the yield down to about 5.27%. According to Bloomberg, bids
amounted to 2.77 times the value on offer.

Indirect investors, including central banks and institutional
investors, accounted for 80.34% of demand, while direct buyers made up
17.12%, underscoring strong interest in the debt.

The 30-year Treasury yield also fell to about 5.65%, in line with the
strong demand for US government securities.

Rising Treasury yields are a concern for Indonesia because they can
increase pressure on emerging-market assets.

Asian share markets also fell on Thursday (8 October 2026), as higher
bond yields weighed on investor appetite for equities.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 0.4%, South Korea’s Kospi lost 0.35%, and
Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 declined 0.4%.
",
