Jaya set to produce elevators<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): PT Pembangunan Jaya and PT Jaya Teknik
\nIndonesia, subsidiaries of the Jaya Group, have joined Japan's
\nMitsubishi Electric Corporation to be the first elevator and
\nescalator manufacturer in the country.<\/p>\n
The new company, PT Mitsubishi Jaya Elevator and Escalator,
\nstarted operation of its manufacturing plant yesterday at the
\nintegrated industrial estate in Karawang, West Java.<\/p>\n
The plant, built on a 20,000 square meter plot with an initial
\ninvestment of about US$5.4 million, will be able to produce 460
\nelevators and escalators a year. The joint venture will produce
\n300 elevators and escalators in the first year.<\/p>\n
Mitsubishi Jaya's president Kunihiro Hattori said yesterday
\nthe escalators and elevators would initially be sold in the
\ndomestic market. The company would export the products in the
\nfuture, he said.<\/p>\n
"Indonesia needs about 1,200 elevators and escalators for the
\nincreasing number of building constructions," Hattori said,
\nadding demand would likely increase.<\/p>\n
He said Mitsubishi had chosen Pembangunan Jaya and Jaya Teknik
\nas its partner because the companies had been distributing
\nMitsubishi's elevators and escalators in the country since 1971.<\/p>\n
He said both companies successfully had the biggest market
\nshare in elevators and escalators in the country.<\/p>\n
Mitsubishi Electric Corporation claimed to have made the
\nworld's fastest elevator in Yokohama Landmark Tower in Japan.
