        "content": "<p>Javanese eagles endangered<\/p>\n<p>JEMBER, East Java: The number of Javanese eagles in the<br>\nprovince is rapidly dwindling and the species may soon reach<br>\nextinction unless conservatory measures are taken immediately, a<br>\nlocal official says.<\/p>\n<p>Chief of the East Java Agency for Conservation of Natural<br>\nResources Indra Arinal said yesterday there remains only 108 to<br>\n200 pairs of the eagles throughout Java.<\/p>\n<p>A computer simulation engineered by agency shows that the<br>\nlarge birds, who are living in reserved forests, might be extinct<br>\nin about 50 years unless proper measures are taken.<\/p>\n<p>The birds' last remaining habitats are the forest reserves of<br>\nMeru Betiri, Cangar, Kawi, Lebakharjo, Iyang Plateau and Mount<br>\nRaung, Antara news agency reported yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Indra called on residents not to poach the birds, which are<br>\nprotected by law.
