Javanese eagles endangered<\/p>\n
JEMBER, East Java: The number of Javanese eagles in the
\nprovince is rapidly dwindling and the species may soon reach
\nextinction unless conservatory measures are taken immediately, a
\nlocal official says.<\/p>\n
Chief of the East Java Agency for Conservation of Natural
\nResources Indra Arinal said yesterday there remains only 108 to
\n200 pairs of the eagles throughout Java.<\/p>\n
A computer simulation engineered by agency shows that the
\nlarge birds, who are living in reserved forests, might be extinct
\nin about 50 years unless proper measures are taken.<\/p>\n
The birds' last remaining habitats are the forest reserves of
\nMeru Betiri, Cangar, Kawi, Lebakharjo, Iyang Plateau and Mount
\nRaung, Antara news agency reported yesterday.<\/p>\n
Indra called on residents not to poach the birds, which are
