Java truck hijackers captured<\/p>\n
SEMARANG: A gang of at least three people has been arrested on
\ncharges of hijacking and looting trucks in Java's north coast,
\npolice said here on Friday.<\/p>\n
Central Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Didi Widayadi said the
\nthree suspects, identified as Hadi, Agung and Arif, were captured
\non Aug. 26. in Cilacap regency.<\/p>\n
Didi said the police were also searching for their three
\naccomplices whose whereabouts remain unknown.<\/p>\n
The gang has become known as the "jumping squirrels," often
\njumping onto cargo trucks to hijack and loot their contents, such
\nas clothes, sugar, electronic goods, spare parts and even
\nmotorcycles.<\/p>\n
The suspects are accused of hijacking at least five trucks
\nthis year alone, including one in April loaded with clothes, at
\nKediri, East Java, and another carrying oil at Purwokerto,
\nCentral Java.<\/p>\n
They were also blamed for looting a truck carrying vehicle
\nspare parts in July in Losari, bordering West and Central Java.
\nIn the same month, the suspects allegedly stole lamps from a
\ntruck in Tegal, Central Java, and the latest incident occurred on
\nAug. 23, when they hijacked a truckload of flour in Slawi,
\nCentral Java.<\/p>\n
Didi said the suspects claimed the hijackings had been carried
\nout after they received orders from brokers in West and East Java
\nwho were ready to buy their booty. --JP<\/p>",
