Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Presidium of the Jakarta Groundwater\nProtection Coalition (JATA) is monitoring the implementation of\nGubernatorial Regulation No.\u00a05 of 2026 concerning Energy and Water\nEfficiency in Buildings to halt groundwater exploitation.<\/p>\n
\u201cExcessive groundwater usage contributes to land subsidence, which\nhas a significant impact on increasing the risk of seasonal flooding,\ntidal flooding, and damage to infrastructure, harming the wider\ncommunity,\u201d said Coordinator of the JATA Presidium, La Ode Kamaludin,\nduring a declaration at the JATA headquarters, Jalan Kampung Melayu\nKecil 3, Tebet, South Jakarta, Thursday.<\/p>\n
The declaration, which demonstrates concern for the environment,\ncarries the theme \u201cSave Jakarta\u2019s Groundwater, Save the Future of the\nCity.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kamal believes that groundwater exploitation in Jakarta over the\nyears has caused various serious impacts, especially due to its use by\nlarge-scale buildings such as apartments, hotels, shop-houses, and\nindustrial areas.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that the prohibition of groundwater usage in buildings\nand industries is an important step in realizing a safe and livable\ncity. Urban development should not burden the community with\nenvironmental risks while only a few parties enjoy the benefits.<\/p>\n
Therefore, he requested that the government ensure that the\ntransition process to using piped water is carried out fairly and\ntransparently.<\/p>\n
\u201cImproving the quality and expanding the coverage of piped water\nservices is a key prerequisite so that the groundwater restriction\npolicy can be accepted by the community without causing social\nresistance,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Executive Director of Jakarta Present, Taufik Rendusara\n(Tope), added that as part of the JATA Coalition, his organization is\nstrongly committed to efforts to prevent groundwater exploitation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe issue of water is not only related to technical aspects, but\nalso concerns the sustainability of the city and the responsibility\nbetween generations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Through this declaration, Tope continued, the Jakarta Groundwater\nProtection Coalition is ready to be at the forefront in monitoring and\noverseeing the implementation of Gubernatorial Regulation No.\u00a05 of\n2026.<\/p>\n
Chairman of the Youth Movement Network (Jamper), Gea Hermansyah,\nexplained that the JATA Coalition will take a number of strategic steps,\nincluding organizing community voices into a collective force that is\ntaken seriously.<\/p>\n
Then, strengthening public control over water services so that they\nare not only driven by business logic; building legitimacy for water\npolicies through active community participation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will also firmly oversee the cessation of groundwater\nexploitation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Jakarta Citizens Coalition for Justice, Marlo\nSitompul, said that land subsidence in Jakarta is a clear fact.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we look at the Penjaringan area, it is clear that there are\nresidential areas that have become part of the sea.
