        "content": "<p>Japanese press blasted<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): An 82 year-old Japanese military veteran has<br>\ncriticized his country's newspapers for overexposing riots in<br>\nIndonesia, saying the coverage may tarnish the Soeharto<br>\ngovernment's image.<\/p>\n<p>Shizuo Miyamoto, deputy president of Nihon Indonesia Kyokai<br>\n(the Indonesia-Japan Friendship Organization), said the culprits<br>\nwere the major dailies Asahi Shimbun and Mainichi Shimbun.<\/p>\n<p>Miyamoto accused the dailies of dramatizing the series of<br>\nriots that rocked Indonesia recently.<\/p>\n<p>\"The ugly reports on Indonesia in Japanese papers are then<br>\nblown up by the Japanese Communist Party which hates the New<br>\nOrder government for its staunch anti-Communist stance,\" Miyamoto<br>\nsaid, as quoted by Antara yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Miyamoto, who was the commander of Japanese troops in Java<br>\nduring World War II, said he was anti-Communist and claimed to<br>\nhave good relations with two of Indonesia's founding fathers,<br>\nSukarno and Moh. Hatta.<\/p>\n<p>He said reports made by another Japanese paper, Yomiuri<br>\nShimbun, were more neutral compared to the two.<\/p>\n<p>Miyamoto said, he had sent a letter to Yomiuri Simbun in<br>\nappreciation of the paper's reports, which he said provided<br>\nbalanced information and insight into the present situation in<br>\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n<p>According to Miyamoto, successive riots rocking Indonesia<br>\nrecently are \"normal and natural\" for a country which is<br>\ndeveloping into an industrial nation.
