        "content": "<p>Japanese envoy visits war cemetery<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia, Taizo Watanabe,<br>\nand his wife visited yesterday a hero's cemetery in Pontianak,<br>\nWest Kalimantan, where over 21,000 local residents were killed by<br>\nJapanese troops.<\/p>\n<p>According to the head of West Kalimantan's public relations<br>\ndepartment, Ya Ibrahim, the ambassador was in the province for a<br>\none-day to visit the cemetery, as well as other historical sites<br>\nin the area, the Antara news agency reported.<\/p>\n<p>Located in the district of Mandor, 80 kilometers from<br>\nPontianak, the cemetery is the site where 21,037 community<br>\nleaders, intellectuals, sultans, and journalists were killed by<br>\nthe occupying Japanese forces in 1944.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to independence, Indonesia was under Japanese rule from<br>\n1942 to 1945.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to his visit to the cemetery, Watanabe paid a courtesy<br>\ncall on the police chief Col.
