Japanese diplomat found dead<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Takanori Watanabe, an information and culture
\nattache at the Japanese embassy here, was found dead in his
\nbedroom yesterday.<\/p>\n
A housemaid found the bachelor's body lying on his bed in his
\n8th floor apartment on Jl. Senopati, South Jakarta at about 9:00
\na.m., a police source said yesterday.<\/p>\n
When the housemaid entered the apartment, she found Watanabe's
\nroom still locked, and there was no reply when she knocked on the
\ndoor.<\/p>\n
Being curious about the fate of her employer, the housemaid
\ncalled the apartment security guard.<\/p>\n
\"When she got no response, she called the police,\" said the
\nofficer, who asked not to be named.<\/p>\n
The officers found the victim with his mouth full with foam,
\nand a can of insecticide and some barbiturate pills close by.<\/p>\n
\"Police assume the 28-year-old diplomat committed suicide,\"
\nthe officer said.<\/p>\n
The body was rushed to the Cipto Mangunkusumo hospital's
\nmorgue at 12:30 p.m. by the Kebayoran Baru police.<\/p>\n
The Japanese embassy here confirmed Watanabe's death
\nyesterday, but declined to give details.<\/p>\n
\"Watanabe was posted as an attache in June 1996. He had
\nattended a two-year diplomat course in Bandung, West Java before
\nthis,\" a source at the embassy said.
