        "content": "<p>Japanese asked to head IMF<\/p>\n<p>MANILA (AP): Asian nations were building a consensus Friday<br>\naround supporting a Japanese candidate to head the International<br>\nMonetary Fund (IMF), signaling a resurgent confidence on the<br>\nworld stage after two years of being humbled by economic crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations plus<br>\nJapan, China and South Korea were conferring ahead of an informal<br>\nASEAN summit this weekend on the idea of Eisuke Sakakibara, a<br>\nformer vice finance minister for international affairs, to head<br>\nthe IMF.<\/p>\n<p>Foreign Minister Surin Pitsuwan of Thailand was asked by The<br>\nAssociated Press in an interview whether a consensus was emerging<br>\nto support the Japanese for the post, which has traditionally<br>\nbeen held by a European.<\/p>\n<p>\"There seems to be,\" Surin said. \"Certainly, there have been<br>\nsome positive responses.\"<\/p>",
