        "content": "<p>Japan traders to back RI<\/p>\n<p>TOKYO (Nikkei): Major Japanese trading houses plan to shore up<br>\noperations in Indonesia, where their joint ventures with local<br>\nconcerns are experiencing difficulties raising funds due to<br>\ndisorder on local financial markets and reluctance by European<br>\nand U.S. financial institutions to extend loans, the Nihon Keizai<br>\nShimbun reported in its Saturday morning edition.<\/p>\n<p>The trading houses believe that Indonesia's economy will<br>\nstabilize gradually, as new President B.J. Habibie has drawn up<br>\npolitical and economic reform policies.<\/p>\n<p>Marubeni Corp has provided US$150 million to PT Chandra Asri,<br>\nits petrochemical complex joint venture with a local company. The<br>\nfunds are advances for the purchase of three to four months worth<br>\nof Chandra Asri products to be delivered to Marubeni. The company<br>\nplans to export the products to other Asian countries, while<br>\nChandra Asri will use the funds to repay borrowings.<\/p>\n<p>Nissho Iwai Corp has started negotiating with the Tirtamas<br>\ngroup on a postponement of loan repayments. The Japanese company<br>\nextended Y15.4 billion in loans to the Tirtamas group for<br>\nconstruction of a chemical product plant. The Tirtamas group has<br>\nrequested a delay in repayments.<\/p>",
