Japan to send advisors<\/p>\n
TOKYO (Nikkei): The Ministry of Finance will send advisors to
\nThailand, Indonesia and Vietnam during the current fiscal year to
\nadvise them on managing their economies, The Nihon Keizai Shimbun
\nreported in its Monday morning edition, citing ministry sources.<\/p>\n
By imparting expertise in fiscal policy and the setting up of
\nbond markets, the ministry hopes to help the countries build a
\nfiscal and monetary system that can avert currency crises.<\/p>\n
The dispatch would be part of the US$30 billion so-called New
\nMiyazawa Initiative to assist fellow Asian nations.<\/p>\n
Beginning this week, four people from the ministry's budget
\nbureau, tax bureau and financial bureau will travel to Thailand
\nfor a fortnight to instruct government officials there on
\nmanaging public works budgets, devising policies to control
\ngovernment debt, and advise on inheritance and environmental
\ntaxes and other areas.<\/p>\n
Members of the ministry's international bureau will soon begin
\nworking in Indonesia for two-year stints. In addition to
\nassisting the government there on fiscal policy, the delegation
\nwill also offer advice on using yen loans and managing foreign
\ndebt.<\/p>",
